The series One Hundred of the Most Beautiful Poems of Chengdu: Land of Poetry and Abundance, consisting of four volumes, was selected as a project for the Sichuan Exhibition Area at the 29th Beijing International Book Fair on June 16. The book launch and publishing symposium was held at China National Convention Center in Beijing.
Honorable guests including Wang Qingyuan, President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Chengdu University (CDU); Deng Zhiming, Second-level Inspector of the Publicity Department of CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee; Yang Yuhua, Director of Center for Mutual Learning of Civilizations and Belt and Road Research of CDU; Li Xiang, Director of Publishing Division of the Publicity Department of CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee; Luo Lin, Director of Secretariat of University International and Regional Studies of Ministry of Education (MOE) and Dean of Academy of International and Regional Studies of Beijing Language and Culture University; He Xiaoxiao, Deputy Director of International Communication Department of Academy of Translation and Interpretation under China International Communications Group; Wang Ping, Assistant Editor-in-Chief and Director of the Omnimedia Center of Guangming Daily Press; Zhu Suyi, Deputy Secretary-general of Chengdu Translators Association; Hou Honghong, President of Sichuan University Press, and members of the creation team of the serial books attended the book launch.
Wang Qingyuan stated in his speech at the book launch that CDU, as the university where the Athletes' Village for the 31st FISU Summer World University Games 2021 is located, has proactively explored innovative approaches to disseminate Tianfu Culture and created brand-new cultural experiences. The university has also organized an exceptional team consisting of Chinese and American experts to collect and translate poems about Chengdu to disseminate the cultural implications embodied in these poems, and finally launched a series entitled "Chengdu: Land of Poetry and Abundance" to refine and showcase the cultural iconic and connotations of the Tianfu Culture. The series will be a great way to share China's unique regional stories, spread the voice of China with regional characteristics, and showcase a reliable, charming, and respectable image of China. It will also delve into the rich meaning behind the Tianfu poetic culture and modern Chengdu's beautiful park city life. Most importantly, it will vividly present Chengdu, a city among the top ten ancient capitals in China, as the "Top City of Poetry in China" to the world. He hoped that more friends can experience the beauty of Chengdu through ancient poetry with the help of the "Chengdu: Land of Poetry and Abundance" series, and enjoy the charming atmosphere in the city brought by the 31st FISU Summer World University Games Chengdu 2021.
Deng Zhiming emphasized that CDU will seize the significant opportunity presented by the 31st FISU Summer World University Games Chengdu 2021 to showcase China's image and foster international friendship. On this occasion, the university launched the "Chengdu: Land of Poetry and Abundance" series, which aims to help people appreciate the most exquisite ancient poems of Chengdu in both Chinese and English, exhibit the cultural characteristics of Chengdu as a poetic city passed down through generations to the world, and provide a unique platform for the city to spread its unique culture and the voice of China. He expected increased attention and participation in the subsequent editing, publication, and domestic and international distribution of the series. He also anticipated a proliferation of exceptional works in the future that will present traditional Chinese cultural classics in a modern manner through translation and promotion. This will provide a window for global audiences, especially young people, to experience Chinese culture and witness China's vitality in contemporary times.

Mr. Wang Yige, the editor-in-chief of the series and a distinguished foreign expert holding American nationality at CDU's Overseas Education College, provided a detailed introduction to the creation team, creative concepts, and the compilation process of this series.
Du Jie, Editor-in-Chief of the series and Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, as well as Dean of both the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures and the Overseas Education College of CDU, presided over the publishing symposium. Yang Yuhua, Luo Lin, He Xiaoxiao and Zhu Suyi attended the symposium as guests. They engaged in an in-depth discussion under the theme "Chinese Poetry Culture and Community with a Shared Future for Mankind".
Wang Lihua, Associate Editor-in-Chief of the series and Director of the English Teaching and Research Office of CDU's Overseas Education College, along with Rye, an international student from Azerbaijan majoring in International Economics and Trade, delivered a bilingual recitation of Du Fu's poem "Rejoicing Rain on a Spring Night" in both English and Chinese.
This series is the outcome of the 2021 International Chinese Education Innovation Project by the MOE's Center for Language Education and Cooperation, as well as CDU's 2021-2023 Key Project on Talent Cultivation Quality and Teaching Reform. It was accomplished by a research team from CDU's Overseas Education College and College of Foreign Languages and Cultures, specializing in international Chinese education and communication. Based on the Annotation to 100 Most Beautiful Ancient Poems in Chengdu compiled and published by Yang Yuhua, former Vice President of CDU (Note: This work was published by Chengdu Times Press in October 2020), this series is centered around the integration of Chinese-English bilingual appreciation and compilation. It features 100 traditional Chinese calligraphy writings, 100 Chinese-English audios, 20 videos, as well as cover illustration designs that are rich in Chengdu's cultural elements. The series endeavors to narrate the cultural saga of Chengdu poetry, vividly portraying the city's distinctive local customs, poetic lifestyle and regional allure, with a steadfast commitment to disseminating Tianfu culture worldwide.
