The Athletes’ Village for the 31^st FISU Summer World University Games Chengdu 2021 is one of the core venues of the 31st FISU Summer World University Games Chengdu 2021 (hereinafter referred to the Athletes’ Village). Covering a total area of 800,000 square meters, with a covered area of 660,000 square meters, it is composed of a residential area, an operation area, an international area and a traffic area. Construction of the project began in April 2019 and is scheduled to be completed in March 2021. The Athletes’ Village boasts seven features. 

First, its location is excellent. The Athletes’ Village lies on campus of Chengdu University in the eastern part of the Downtown of Chengdu, 12 kilometers from the city center in the west, 46 kilometers from Chengdu Tianfu International Airport in the southeast, 26 kilometers from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport in the southwest, and 12 kilometers from the main stadium in the Dong'an Lake area in the south. 

Second, the Athletes’ Village is characterized by convenient transportation. It is encircled by the Third Ring Road, Chengluo Avenue, Chengdu-Nanchong Expressway Chengdu-Chongqing Expressway and the Fourth Ring Road; Line 4 of the Chengdu Metro set up two stations near Chengdu University. Convenient transportation will ensure the speedy arrival and departure of delegations, staff, volunteers, visitors and spectators. 

Third, the Athletes’ Village has graceful surroundings. The Athletes’ Village is adjacent to the Qinglonghu Wetland Park in the south as well as Jincheng Greenway in the east. Its slow traffic system will be seamlessly connected to greenways in Chengdu.

 Fourth, the Athletes’ Village integrates renovation with reconstruction. The organizing committee has renovated some parts of Chengdu University, including student dormitories, dining halls, basketball courts, athletic fields, teaching buildings and libraries, with an area of about 280,000 square meters. It has also erected delegation apartments, swimming pools, athletic fields, integrated service buildings, administrative support buildings, and medical buildings, totaling 380,000 square meters. 

Fifth, the Athletes’ Village will facilitate cultural exchanges. There are 952,000 university students in Chengdu. Chengdu University now has more than 24,000 full-time students, including 1,394 graduate students and 694 international students. During the 2021 Summer World University Games, the university will open its library, innovative and entrepreneurial park, teaching buildings and other venues and hold colorful cultural and educational activities to promote exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and foreign university students, thus achieving mutual learning between civilizations. 

Sixth, the local government will provide a strong guarantee in the Athletes’ Village. The local government will ensure the supply of energy sources like water, electricity and gas, 5G and Wi-Fi 6 "double gigabit" communication and wireless network coverage, establish 4K or 8K high-definition live channels for real-time broadcasting of the event, set up 24-hour unmanned AI supermarkets, and build a highly responsive decision support system.

 Last, the Athletes’ Village still has great value after the 2021 Summer World University Games. The organizing committee will hand over the Athletes’ Village to Chengdu University free of charge after the event in a bid to help the university expedite the establishment of a first-class applied city university in China.
