Message from the President

Since its establishment in 1978, Chengdu University has committed to developing into a first-class applied city university in China. It seeks to explore a higher education development model of running school on the strong government support and by attaching great importance to distinctiveness and internationalization. With the university spirit of “seeking truth and being pragmatic, and constantly striving for self-improvement”, it aims to develop new collaborative running mechanisms that take the university as the main body and encourage the participation of both the local government and the society.

Following the development strategies of the country and region, especially the city of Chengdu, Chengdu University has been implementing three major development strategies of “talent strategy, distinctiveness strategy and internationalization strategy”. It adheres to its distinctive talent training approaches of “university-city integration, open collaboration, and regional application”.

Chengdu University particularly focuses on the “internationalization” development strategy. It has been integrating first-class international cooperation resources, especially from B&R and RCEP areas, to cultivate high-quality applied talents with national identity and patriotism, global vision, multi-dimensional thinking and knowledge so that the students can study and intern globally to enrich their learning and life experience. Until now, it has established partnerships with 124 overseas universities and organizations, and has trained more than 2,000 international students from 54 countries. Moreover, it has been actively engaged in international Chinese language education. For example, Chengdu University is the second university in Sichuan Province that has established an overseas Confucius Institute, namely, the Confucius Institute at the University of New Hampshire in the United States. The Institute was awarded as the “Confucius Institute of the Year” in 2019. Besides, it is also the site of the Athletes’ Village for the 31st FISU Summer World University Games 2021.

With the continual support from all walks of life such as governments, entrepreneurs, partners and alumni, Chengdu University will keep striving to cultivate capable and creative applied talents, improve social development, and build itself into a first-class applied city university in China.
