IThe Introduction to the Institute of Advanced Studies of Chengdu University (IAS of CDU)

The Institute of Advanced Studies of Chengdu University is a "special zone for scientific research" and "special zone for talent" that the university strives to build to further promote the reform and innovation of the scientific research system and enhance its scientific research capacity and level. Since its establishment in 2016, IAS of CDU has explored the establishment of a flexible talent-introduction mechanism to attract outstanding research talents at home and abroad and build a high-level research team, and has carried out basic research, applied research, and key engineering technology research around major national, provincial, and municipal strategies and scientific frontier issues. Professor Ada Yonath, an Israeli scientist and Nobel Prize winner, serves as Honorary President of IAS of CDU; Fan Daiming, former Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), also participates in guiding the work of IAS of CDU as Honorary President.

    In recent years, IAS of CDU has actively promoted the construction of high-level scientific research and innovation teams led by academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), such as the Energy Engineering Materials Research Team, Superconducting and New Energy Materials Application Research Team, Nano-energy and Catalytic Materials Research Team, Intelligent System and Application Research Team, Chiral Drug Innovation Research Team, Advanced Materials Multi-scale Deformation and Failure Mechanics Research Institute, Agricultural Products Processing Engineering Team, Innovation Research Team of the Institute of Integrative Medicine, and Tumor Biology & Innovative Drugs Research Team. With the strong support of the university, each team has continuously improved its influence in the field of its discipline and actively advanced the construction of relevant provincial and national scientific research platforms.

By giving full play to the advantages of its construction of the "special zone for talent" and "special zone for scientific research", IAS of CDU has gathered a group of domestic and foreign talents with relatively strong academic abilities. IAS of CDU boasts a strong faculty team: It owns 10 honorary professors who are Nobel Prize winner, academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Fields Medal winner or Pulitzer Prize winner; 30 distinguisheded professors, scholars, and high-end foreign experts with the title of the expert of the national "Thousand Talents Program", "Changjiang Distinguished Professorship", or winner of "the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars", national "Thousand Young Talents Program", "New Century Excellent Talent Support Program of the Ministry of Education of the PRC", the national "Ten Thousand Leaders for Scientific and Technological Innovation Program", the national "Ten Thousand Excellent Young Talents Program", the "National Young and Middle-aged Science and Technology Innovation Leader Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology", or Sichuan Provincial "Ten Thousand Talents Program"; in addition, IAS of CDU has introduced more than 80 full-time distinguished Research and Associate Research Fellows.
