Recently, Dr. Hamid Farahmandian, a high-level foreign expert at the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures of Chengdu University (CDU), published his latest research results in the paper "The Expansion of Vanity of Simon in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" on Frontiers in Psychiatry (JCR Q2/CAS Q3; IF:5.435) as the first author. The paper was published with CDU as the first author's unit.

Based on Karen Horney's personality theory of neurosis, this paper studies the aggressive personality of Simon in James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man from three aspects of frustrated selfishness, sense of dominance, and search for respect to make known his neurotic needs for power, admiration, prestige, exploitation, and achievement and demonstrate that offensive conducts of Simon make him more insecure and leave him more aggressive toward everybody at home and society. Frontiers in Psychiatry is an international open-access medical journal published by the International Union of Psychological Science. The journal covers a wide range of fields, particularly the latest research and developments in psychiatry and neuroscience. With its first issue published in 2006, Frontiers in Psychiatry is currently one of the most popular psychology journals in the world.

Since joining the university last September, Dr. Hamid Farahmandian has published two papers as the first author with CDU the first author's unit in internationally renowned academic journals, including "Anna Livia Plurabelle’s Normless Interactions in Finnegans Wake" in Frontiers in Psychology (IF: 4.232), the October 2022 issue (paper link: https://doi.org/10.3389/fpsyg.2022.917865). In the same month, he paid an academic visit to the Zurich James Joyce Foundation in Zurich, Switzerland. As the world's most famous James Joyce Research Center, the Foundation only allows one academic who has outstanding achievements in James Joyce research to visit each year. Dr. Hamid Farahmandian visited the Foundation's archive and library as a representative of CDU and participated in seminars. It was the first time an academic from a Chinese university or institute visited the Foundation.
