On the afternoon of January 27, Chengdu University (CDU) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) held an Online Conference on a cooperative project, with in-depth and fruitful discussions on cooperation between the two parties. Wang Qingyuan, President of CDU, and Eden Y Woon, President of AIT, attended the conference and delivered speeches. Peng Xiaolin, Vice President of CDU, and Shobhakar Dhakal, Vice President for Academic Affairs of AIT, attended the conference.
President Wang mentioned that AIT is a very important partner of CDU, and both institutions will take this project as an opportunity to forge a practical and close partnership for the co-construction of a regional collaborative research center, and the development of joint programmes at both master’s and doctoral levels, embarking on a new journey for in-depth cooperation. He also expressed his gratitude for the close and efficient cooperation between CDU and AIT teams, looking forward to the successful implementation of the project.
Eden Y Woon stated that the Board of Trustees of AIT has approved the proposal for this cooperative project with CDU, and both institutions will continue to have in-depth communications and actively promote the implementation of the cooperation project. AIT will also actively cooperate with CDU to prepare for the applicaiton of the project.
This was the second thematic work conference following the online meeting between the two presidents in December 2021. Last month, the teams of both parties had in-depth discussions on the preliminary planning and feasibility of the project. During the meeting, the two parties discussed in detail the level of education, proposed majors, degree awarding, application preparation and other issues of the project for further promoting the development of the project.
Dean of the School of Engineering & Technology and President for China Affairs at AIT, and Head of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange at CDU also attended the meeting.
News Link: CDU and AIT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a partnership on July 11, 2020. Since then, the two universities have started in-depth teacher and student exchanges and research cooperation. Since 2019, three students from CDU have been selected to pursue master's degrees at AIT, fully funded by the China Scholarship Council. In 2021, AIT's President Dr. Eden Y Woon was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the 6th International Exchange Week of CDU, and delivered a keynote speech online. On December 9, 2021, the two presidents had an online meeting to discuss how to take advantages of both parties in talent, resources, and environment for more cooperative projects.
