Together with the QS World University Rankings, US News Best Global Universities Rankings and ShanghaiRanking's Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), the THE World University Rankings is regarded as one of the four authoritative world university rankings. The THE Young University Rankings list the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger (including those established in and after 1972). This is the 11th year of its release. The THE Young University Rankings employ the same methodology with the THE World University Rankings. Universities are judged across all the core missions of research-intensive universities, including teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The ranking is under adjustment to better reflect the missions and features of young universities. It adopts 13 indicators in five areas, including teaching (the learning environment, 30%), research (volume, income and reputation, 30%), citation (research influence, 30%), international vision (international academic staff, international students and international co-authorship, 7.5%) and industry income (knowledge transfer, 2.5%) to provide a comprehensive and balanced evaluation of universities. Therefore, it is widely trusted by students, scholars, university heads, higher education institutions and governments.

Founded in 1978, CDU is one of the first city universities in China, and adopts an open and innovative approach to the integration of CDU and Chengdu City. It has implemented the talent strategy, distinctiveness strategy and internationalization strategy to build a first-class city university in China. In recent years, the education quality, scientific research capacity and reputation of CDU have been significantly improved. As an emerging city university, CDU has been listed in several important rankings. For example, in the latest Nature Index, we ranked 152nd among Chinese universities and 700th globally. The Engineering discipline was listed in the top 1% of the Essential Science Indicators (ESI). In the 2022 THE World University Rankings, CDU first entered the top 100 in China, being top 73-92 in China and 1,001-1,200 globally. In the 2022 THE Emerging Economies University Rankings, CDU was also listed for the first time, with an overall strength ranking 401st–500th internationally. In the 2022 THE World University Rankings 2022 by subject, two disciplines from our university were listed for the first time, with Clinical discipline ranked about 601st and Engineering discipline ranked 801st-1,000th globally.

In recent years, CDU has continuously promoted high-quality education and excellent research. The result of the THE Young University Rankings 2022 has showcased the international recognition of our overall strength and development potential. In the future, CDU will continuously strive to enhance its capacity building, and focus on the needs of national and regional innovation and development. In doing so, the features of university-city integration, industry-university cooperation, international vision, and future and sustainable development orientation could be demonstrated for cultivating high-caliber and practice-focused talents with Chinese spirits, international outlook and global competence.
