On 30th November, Chengdu University (CDU)'s application for the IELTS computer-based test centre was approved by the National Education Examinations Authority (NEEA). CDU has become the third IELTS computer-based test centre in Sichuan, following the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and Sichuan University. Up to now, there are 29 IELTS computer-based test centres in 20 cities across China. The CDU one will be ready for use in March 2022.

In June 2021, CDU was approved by the British Council (the organiser of IELTS test) and became an accredited IELTS Recognising Organisation. On 6th September, the Ceremony for the IELTS Recognising Organisation accreditation was held in CDU, and a preliminary review was conducted by the British Council for the site choice of the test centre. On 23rd September, a joint review was conducted by both the NEEA and the British Council for the centre conditions. On 27th November, a campus-delivered IELTS test was held in CDU (with the support of the organiser of IELTS test), which was highly recognised and praised by both the test organiser and all test takers.

The approval of the IELTS computer-based test centre at CDU makes a significant contribution to the establishment of the Global Language Center (in preparation). CDU aims to build a cluster of international language test centres for the first choice of future international language test-takers in Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, and to provide test-takers across China with high-quality IELTS computer-based test services, so as to speed up the internationalisation process of the regions and cities. In addition, the establishment of an international language testing centre will facilitate teachers and students at CDU to take international language tests, help them to improve their foreign language proficiency, expand their international vision, improve their international understanding and global competence. It will also contribute to CDU's implementation of internationalisation development strategy, promote the international mobility of CDU teachers and students, and cultivate more international talents with international visions, a good understanding of international rules and strong competitiveness in participating in global affairs.
