From May 15 to 16, the 5th National Collegiate Material Design Invitational Contest (MDC) of the "CCTC Cup" was held at Xiamen University under the sponsorship of the National College Student Alliance for Innovation & Entrepreneurship Practice (NCSAP).  A total of 206 teams from 49 universities, including Beihang University, signed up for the contest, and 57 undergraduate teams from 38 universities (over 70% from 985/211 universities) were selected for the final, setting off a boom of undergraduate innovation and entrepreneurship.  The project Development of High-temperature Stable BY-PZT Piezoceramic Material and Design of Acceleration Transducer from Chengdu University won the third prize.

With the theme of "Innovative Materials and the Future of Materials", this contest was chaired by Professor Peng Dongliang, Dean of the College of Materials at Xiamen University and Recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and judged by industry experts from well-known domestic organizations such as Chaozhou Three-Circle Co., Ltd. (CCTC), Southeast University, Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, and Huaqiao University. The contest is divided into two parts, physical presentation and project defense.

This was the first time for Chengdu University to compete in the contest. The competition team consisted of three undergraduates from the School of Mechanical Engineering majoring in Material Forming and Control Engineering (Zhou Zhi and Lei Liqin from Grade 2019, and Wang Jinxiu from Grade 2020), and the instructor was Associate Professor Chen Yu from the Department of Materials Engineering. The project achievements came from the Open Fund of the Key Laboratory of Deep Underground Science and Engineering, the Enterprise Horizontal Authorized Project, and the National Innovation Training Program for College Students undertaken by the team instructor and students. After over 2 years of experimental research, the team managed to develop a high-temperature piezoceramic material that can be used stably for a long time at 500°C, obtaining 1 invention patent and 2 utility model patents. As a core component, it is applied in the 1A623 high-temperature piezoelectric acceleration transducer developed by Jiangsu DongHua Testing Technology, a leading enterprise in the field of testing technology in China, which provides key technology for structural mechanical testing of high-temperature parts/components of major technical equipment. Earlier, the project had won the silver prize in the 2020 Sichuan Undergraduate Business Plan Competition of the "Challenge Cup".
