Teacher of CDU Publishes a Paper of Art in SSCI Journals for First Time

In March 2021, the article titled The battlefield of ballet schools: the commodification of dance education in China, authored by He Yang Thokme Tsering, Associate Dean of the School of Music and Dance, College of Chinese & ASEAN Arts, CDU, was published on Leisure Studies, the online version of an international mainstream academic journal indexed by the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI). This marks the first paper of art published by the teacher of CDU in SSCI journals.


Leisure Studies, a prestigious international journal of social science studies in the UK, is a top tier academic journal in the social culture domain, and is indexed by the SSIC. With an emphasis on the publication of high quality articles, the journal presents a theoretical study for various fields of social sciences and humanities. The journal focuses on the research in art, tourism, culture, entertainment, media, sports and others.

This paper studies the interaction between dance education and the economy. Through qualitative and ethnographic research methods, the author interviewed dance educators from several dance education and training institutions as well as venture capitalists for views and experience in Chengdu, sharing the interrelation of dance education and the economy. The article was contributed in December 2020 and published on March 27, 2021.
