On the afternoon of June 30, Sake Nopthaisong, Consul General of the Kingdom of Thailand in Chengdu, led a delegation to visit Chengdu University. Zhu Ming, Party Secretary of Chengdu University, met with the guests in Conference Room A316 of the Administrative Support Center. The two sides exchanged views on education and cultural exchanges. Vice Presidents Peng Xiaolin and Liu Xianfeng were also present.
Zhu Ming welcomed Consul General Sake Nopthaisong and his delegation and expressed his appreciation for his efforts to promote the cooperation between CDU and Thailand during his tenure. He noted that bilateral ties had advanced significantly. The two sides jointly held celebrations for the 50th anniversary of China-Thailand diplomatic relations, and established Sichuan's first official Thai language proficiency test (CU-TFL) center at Chengdu University, filling the gap in official Thai language proficiency assessment in the province. Zhu Ming said Chengdu University is willing to expand cooperation with Thailand in scientific research, technology transfer, and overseas education.
Consul General Sake Nopthaisong praised Chengdu University for its role in promoting youth exchanges between China and Thailand. He recalled that Chengdu University was the first university he visited after taking office in Chengdu in 2024, and he had returned this time to pay a farewell visit. Chengdu University is one of the consulate general’s key educational partners. During his term, bilateral cooperation has expanded from language teaching to interdisciplinary programs and from personnel exchanges to building joint research platform, laying a solid foundation for broader cooperation. He looked forward to both sides working closely together in the future to bring fresh momentum to China-Thailand educational ties.
After the meeting, the Consul General and his delegation visited the Sichuan Thai Language Proficiency Test Center at the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures.
Officials from the university’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures, as well as Prof. Chaphiporn Kiatkachatharn, a Thai expert at the university and winner of the Chinese Government Friendship Award, were also present.
