
On June 6, the First International Symposium on Oil & Gas CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage) and New Energy opened at Southwest Petroleum University. Zhou Ying, President of Chengdu University, attended the opening ceremony of the symposium and chaired the Belt and Road Forum on High-Quality Oil and Gas Energy Cooperation and Development.
The symposium brought together 10 academicians from research institutions including the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering,the Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada, the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and German National Academy of Science and Engineering; over 200 overseas scholars from the United States, Germany, Canada,and Iraq; more than 2,000 domestic experts; and representatives from 32 enterprises, including CNPC, Sinopec, CNOOC, ZhenHua Oil, and Yanchang Petroleum. Centered on the theme of “Innovation-Driven High-Efficiency Oil and Gas Exploration and Development, CCUS Technology Breakthroughs, and Technology-Empowered Integrated Development of New Energy”, the symposium showcased cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements and pooled global solutions for green and low-carbon energy development.

On the afternoon of June 6, the Belt and Road Forum on High-Quality Oil and Gas Energy Cooperation and Development was held. Zhou Ying chaired the forum. Leading experts, including Lei Xianzhang (Academician of German National Academy of Science and Engineering), Wang Hehua (Deputy Chief Geologist of ZhenHua Oil and Dean of its Exploration and Development Research Institute), Zeng Fanhua (Professor at the University of Regina), and Liao Guangzhi (Senior Expert at CNPC and Deputy Chief Geologist of its Oil and Gas New Energy Branch) shared insights on hot topics such as international cooperation on oil and gas, commercialization of CCUS, green upgrading of oil and gas, and integrated development of oil, gas and new energy.
