On March 23, 2026, Zhu Ming, President of Chengdu University, led a delegation to visit City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan). This visit aimed to implement the city-university strategic cooperation agreement between Chengdu Municipal People's Government and City University of Hong Kong, and advance in-depth collaboration between the two universities in talent cultivation.

Lu Chun, Vice President of City University of Hong Kong and Executive President of City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan), warmly welcomed the delegation. Zhu Ming and Lu Chun signed a joint cultivation agreement on behalf of both universities. Under the agreement, the two sides will foster pragmatic cooperation in talent cultivation and the deep integration of scientific and industrial innovation, marking a new chapter in the substantive coordinated development of higher education between Chengdu and Hong Kong (China).

Zhu Ming expressed his gratitude to City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) for its warm reception and highlighted that Chengdu University upholds the scientific research philosophy of "High Ambition and Practical Roots," with "serving urban development" as its central focus. He noted that the longstanding relationship and multiple mutual visits between the two universities have laid a solid foundation for deepening future cooperation. He is confident that the signing of this agreement will further advance Chengdu-Hong Kong cooperation and foster the integrated development of the education, talent, industry, and innovation chains. He looks forward to leveraging this signing as an opportunity to deepen the comprehensive collaboration between the two universities in faculty-student exchanges, joint discipline development, scientific innovation, and cultural engagement.

Lu Chun extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He introduced the educational philosophy of City University of Hong Kong and City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan)—"Two Campuses with One Quality, Integration of Teaching and Research, Boundless Innovation"—as well as their disciplinary strengths and internationalization initiatives. By leveraging the geographical advantage of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) is committed to developing an industry-university-research industrial park. Lu Chun stated that the strategic partnership between the two universities is a key element of the collaboration between Chengdu and City University of Hong Kong. This partnership will further deepen and enhance the quality of exchanges between the two institutions.

City University of Hong Kong is the second higher education institution in Hong Kong to be ranked among the top 100 in four major global university rankings. In 2026, it is ranked 63rd in the QS World University Rankings and 1st among the "Most International Universities in the World" by Times Higher Education. In April 2024, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment and student enrollment of City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan). The institute's establishment represents a significant milestone in implementing the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and advancing higher education cooperation within the area.
