From June 25 to July 2, Liu Ya, Vice President of Chengdu University led a delegation to visit the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. The delegation held cooperation talks with heads of universities, including Imperial College London, Oxford Brookes University (OBU), University of Stirling, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands, etc.
During her visit to the United Kingdom, Liu Ya and her delegation visited Imperial College London in the United Kingdom as their first stop. They met with the head of the Centre for Continuing Professional Development. The two sides introduced their school running, discipline development, and international cooperation, respectively, and reached a consensus on future cooperation in student-facing online and offline summer programs. They hoped to see more students participating in various short-term academic and cultural exchange activities.
At OBU, Liu Ya's delegation had talks with Linda King, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Global Partnerships, Nick, Director of the International Department, and Deans of the School of Education, Humanities and Languages, the School of Health Life Sciences, and the School of Design and Environment. The two sides highlighted their efforts in promoting the establishment of Chengdu Oxford Brookes Vocational and Technical College and discussed how to promote further cooperation in education, nursing, and other fields. Both sides expressed that they would encourage more students to actively participate in exchange programs, deepen academic and cultural exchanges between the two universities, and build a multi-form, interdisciplinary, and in-depth cooperation system.
At the University of Stirling, Liu Ya met with Professor Malcolm MacLeod, the Senior Deputy Principal, Professor Leigh Sparks, the Deputy Principal, and Neville Wylie, the Deputy Principal, as well as deans of various schools. Since signing the inter-university agreement in 2021, the two universities have carried out extensive exchanges and cooperation in co-training international talent. Based on the current cooperation, the two universities will further strengthen teacher-student exchanges, expand educational and scientific research cooperation in the medical field, and promote the construction of a Joint Research Center for Alzheimer's Disease. During the visit, the delegation visited the Dementia Services Development Centre and Sports Centre at the University of Stirling in the United Kingdom.
During the visit to Zuyd University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, the delegation met with Andre Postema, President of the University, and Wang Xinxin, Dutch Director of Confucius Institute Maastricht. This is the first offline exchange between the two sides since the outbreak of COVID-19. They detailed each other's discipline setting and international cooperation and looked forward to further strengthening their joint student training projects and international scientific research cooperation in the field of health care. As the secretariat unit of Chengdu International Sister Cities Higher Education Institutions Alliance, Liu Ya sent an official invitation to the president on behalf of Chengdu University and looked forward to his participation in the 2024 Exchange Activity for Presidents of Chengdu International Sister Cities held in late October in Chengdu.
Relevant heads of the Graduate Student Department, the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the School of Clinical Medicine, the Affiliated Hospital, and Stirling College were involved in the delegation.
