On May 9, Clarivate Analytics released the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) data for May 2024. This update covers the period from January 2014 to February 2024, and Chengdu University's discipline of clinical medicine entered the top 1% globally according to ESI ranking. In January 2022, the engineering discipline entered the top 1% globally of ESI for the first time. The following two years have witnessed the entry of its agricultural sciences, chemistry, materials science, and clinical medicine in ESI's top 1% globally. Currently, a total of five disciplines of Chengdu University are among the 1% globally of the ESI, ranking 6th among universities in Sichuan.

Our university has newly released 413 papers in clinical medicine, with a total citation frequency of 4,242. The four disciplines, namely engineering, agricultural sciences, chemistry, and materials science, have also achieved improvements in this regard: the total number of papers in engineering is 1,057, with a total citation frequency of 15,724, ranking 859th globally, up 78 places; the total number of papers in agricultural sciences is 645, with a total citation frequency of 8,775, ranking 535th globally, up 64 places; the total number of papers in chemistry is 1,180, with a total citation frequency of 18,583 times, ranking 1,050th in the world, up 125 places; the total number of papers in materials science is 1,121, with a total citation frequency of 13,563 times, ranking 963rd in the world, up 39 places. All these show a good momentum of development.

In recent years, Chengdu University has attached great importance to discipline building, seized development opportunities, strengthened the top-level design and planned key points for discipline building, deeply explored the potential of discipline development, and promoted high-quality development of discipline building while highlighting advantageous characteristics disciplines, emerging disciplines, inter-disciplines, and basic disciplines. Besides, in response to the development needs of modern regional industries, it has been continuously condensing discipline directions, gathering high-level talent teams, building high-grade discipline platforms, and generating advanced scientific research achievements. Along with its strengthening leading role in discipline building, the comprehensive strength of its disciplines has been significantly improved.
