Times Higher Education Chinese Subject Ratings for 2024 Unveiled, Chengdu University Makes Remarkable Performance

Recently, the 2024 Times Higher Education China Subject Ratings was officially announced, and Chengdu University scored a B grade, reaching the global average level. In addition, this year, a total of 7 disciplines from our university made the list, with Materials Science and Engineering rated as A-, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science and Technology rated as B+, Pharmacy and Nursing rated as B, Civil Engineering rated as B-, and Preclinical Medicine/Medical Science rated as C.

The ratings include 1,885 universities worldwide, 86 of which are in mainland China.

In recent years, guided by President Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Chengdu University has firmly grasped the direction of socialist education, fully implemented the new development concept, fully leveraged the leading role of high-level disciplines, focused on core priorities, transformed construction concepts, and has taken discipline construction as the driving force, enhancing scientific research, talent cultivation, and social services comprehensively. On this basis, the university has strengthened the top-level design of discipline construction, innovated the system and mechanism of discipline construction, planned discipline construction priorities, focused on the construction of advantageous, characteristic, emerging, interdisciplinary, and basic disciplines, and fostered a positive synergy among disciplines. By optimizing resource allocation and precisely supporting the development of advantageous disciplines, the university has continuously unleashed the potential of disciplines, promoting a steady stream of high-level scientific research achievements and a significant enhancement in the ability and standard of discipline research.

The 2024 Times Higher Education World Subject Rankings are compiled based on the data from the 2024 World University Rankings and represent one of the most comprehensive, rigorous, and impartial evaluations of research-intensive universities worldwide. The subject rankings cover disciplines in arts and humanities, business and economics, clinical and health, computer science, education, engineering, law, life sciences, physical sciences, psychology, and social sciences. Its evaluation framework comprises 18 performance indicators, grouped into 5 areas: teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and industry income. In this ranking, a total of 499 disciplines from 87 institutions in mainland China were featured on the list.
