I. General Information

Chengdu University (CDU), established in 1978, is a prominent university in Sichuan Province and Chengdu City. It operates under a provincial and municipal co-administration model, with a particular emphasis on city-based administration. In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023, CDU is positioned between 801 and 1000 globally and ranks between 49 and 95 among universities in the Chinese Mainland.

CDU offers ten disciplinary categories, including Arts, Literature, Management, Education, Economics, Law, Engineering, Medicine, Science, and Agriculture, encompassing a total of72undergraduate majors. It has nine first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees and 16 categories authorized for specialized master's degrees. The university also houses a post-doctoral innovation practice base. Notably,four disciplines—Engineering, Agricultural Science,Materials scienceand Chemistry—are recognized among the global top 1% in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI), and the Pharmacy discipline was ranked as one of China's high-level disciplines by the Alumni Association in 2019.

CDU currently has over 27,000 full-time students and 1,721 full-time teachers. Among the faculty, there are nearly 800 teachers holding senior and associate titles, over 800 doctoral teachers, nearly 100 doctoral supervisors, and more than 700 postgraduate supervisors. The university is home to nearly 20 talents recognized as Distinguished Young Scholars under the national fund, Changjiang Scholars, candidates of the New Century Millions of Talents Project, and experts who receive special allowances from the State Council. It also boasts over 110 provincial academic and technical leaders and experts who have made significant contributions to their respective fields. CDU has three academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, two European academicians, more than 40 distinguished Changjiang Scholars and Young Scholars under the national fund, and nearly 30 high-end distinguished foreign experts. Moreover, there are over 100 distinguished research fellows affiliated with CDU.

CDU has signed cooperation memoranda with180 universities in 41 countries and regions. It has also collaborated with the University of Stirling in the establishment of the Stirling College. In addition, there are 4 undergraduate and postgraduate joint education programs, 40 multi-level overseas joint training programs, and 42 overseas inter-school exchange programs. Besides, it offers international general education courses and has a global language testing center. The Thailand Research Center in Sichuan Province has been selected and listed by the Ministry of Education as a research center for state and regional studies. Till now, CDU has enrolled over 3,500 international students from 74 countries and has been recognized as one of the "Sichuan Demonstration Bases for International Education".CDU is the location of the athletes' village for the 31st World University Games.

II. Eligibility

(I) For Undergraduate Programs:

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with proper moral conduct and are in good health. Applicants must be valid foreign passport holders with an educational background equivalent to that of a Chinese high school diploma.

2. Academic performance

Applicants should have outstanding academic performance. Proof should be provided through (but not limited to) the following document(s):

2.1 High school /University (if applicable) transcripts (original documents and notarized copy in English or Chinese).

2.2 Certificate of National/Regional Graduation Examination / Matriculation Examination in its original form or as a notarized document. Texts in languages other than Chinese and English should be translated and notarized.

2.3Results of international standard tests(e.g. SAT/ACT/A-Level/AP/IB/others).

2.4 Graduation certificate and degree certificate in its original form. For graduating high school students, please provide pre-graduation certificates. For texts in languages other than Chinese and English, please provide notarized translated documents.

2.5 Other supporting materials.

3. For the applicants who apply for Chinese-language courses, HSK (level IV) certificate or above is required. For non-native English speakers who apply for English-language courses, a score report on the English Proficiency test is required (e.g., TOEFL/IELTS/others).

4. The applicant must be 18 or above (by September 1st, 2024). For the applicants under 18, please bring the relevant supporting documents to the official registration (Please see annex 2 for details)

5. For those who were initially Chinese citizens but later naturalized as foreign nationals, please follow the conditions set by Document No. 12(2020) of the Ministry of Education of the PRC.

6. Applicants should abide by the laws and decrees of the Chinese government and related rules of the university.

(II) For Postgraduate Programs

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with proper moral conduct and are in good health. Applicants for Master’s degree programs should have an undergraduate study background equivalent to that of the Chinese Bachelor’s degree.

2. Academic performance

Applicants should have outstanding academic performance. Proof should be provided through (but not limited to) the following document(s):

2.1 High school /University (if applicable) transcripts (original documents and notarized copy in English or Chinese).

2.2 The transcript for all the courses during the undergraduate stage, in its original form or as a notarized document. Texts in languages other than Chinese and English should be translated and notarized.

2.3 Results of international standard tests (e.g. SAT/ACT/A-Level/AP/IB/others).

2.4 The diploma certificate and graduation certificate in its original form or as a notarized document. Texts in languages other than Chinese and English should be translated and notarized. Texts in languages other than Chinese and English should be translated and notarized.

2.5 Other supporting materials.

3. For the applicants who apply for Chinese-language courses, HSK (level IV) certificate or above is required. For non-native English speakers who apply for English-language courses, a score report on the English Proficiency test is required (e.g., TOEFL/IELTS/others).

(III) For Chinese Language Training Programs:

1. Applicants aged 16-59must be non-Chinese citizens in good health, with valid passports. For applicants under 18, please bring the supporting documents to the official registration (Please see annex 5 for details).

2. For those who were initially Chinese citizens but later naturalized as foreign nationals, please follow the conditions set by Document No. 12(2020) of the Ministry of Education of the PRC.

3. Applicants should abide by the laws and decrees of the Chinese government and related rules of the university.

4. Applicants should behave well and be in good health.

III. Application:

(I) Applicants are required to register online, complete all registration information and submit relevant materials per the requirements. (See Annexes 1, 2 and 3).

(II) Online registration period:

Spring semester, October 1, 2023 to January 15, 2024

Autumn semester,March 1 to June 15, 2024

(III) Applicants should log in to the website https://admissions.cdu.edu.cn within the specified registration time and register per the corresponding instructions.

VII. Scholarship:

(I) Scholarship for International Students at Chengdu University

Scholarships are provided to reward outstanding international students who are newly enrolled or currently studying.

Undergraduates: RMB 20,000 per year

Postgraduate: RMB 25,000 per year

Language-learning students: RMB 2,000-7,000/semester

 

(II) Chengdu Government Scholarship for International Students from Sister Cities

The "Friendship City Scholarship" is provided to award outstanding international students studying at higher education institutions in Chengdu, which have been approved and authorized to offer academic or non-academic education according to national regulations.

Undergraduates: RMB 20,000 per year

Postgraduate: RMB 25,000 per year

Language Students:RMB 1,000/month, up to RMB10,000/year (based on the actual study time in China, can only apply at Fall semester)

(III) Chengdu Belt and Road Scholarship

The Belt and Road Scholarship is provided to award outstanding international students from Belt and Road countries who are studying at higher education institutions in Chengdu, which have been approved and authorized to offer academic or non-academic education according to national regulations.

Undergraduates: RMB 20,000 per year

Postgraduate: RMB 25,000 per year

Language Students:RMB 1,000/month, up to RMB10,000/year (based on the actual study time in China, can only apply at Fall semester)

(IV)International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship(Language-learning students)

The "International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship" is provided to international students in majors of Chinese Language and Culture、Chinese Language and Literature、Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages as an international education for one academic year or one semester.

The scholarship supports tuition, accommodation, living allowance (excluding four-week study program students) and comprehensive medical insurance.The living allowance for one-year study program students and one-semester study program students is RMB 2,500/month per person.

(V) Others

Scholarship recipients must follow the following regulations:

1. Complete registration procedures within the designated time frame as specified by the university. Failure to report without prior approval will result in automatic forfeiture of student status and cancellation of the scholarship. Students who retain their admission status will not retain the scholarship eligibility.

2.Recipients of the Scholarship mustfully pay the annual tuition fees in advance.

3. Scholarship recipients must participate in the annual scholarship evaluation as required. Those who receive an unsatisfactory evaluation may have their scholarship suspended or disqualified.

4. Regardless of the application outcome, submitted application materials will not be returned.

5. Each student is only allowed to apply for only one type of scholarship.

VIII. Admission:

The letter of admission will be issued and sent within thirty working days after the comprehensive assessment of applicants in terms of morality, intelligence, and physique principles.

IX. Enrolment:

Entrants are required to enroll inlater February 2024(Language students)and September 2024, with the exact date to be communicated by their respective colleges. Upon registration, entrants will undergo qualification verification and, if deemed necessary by the college, a professional entrance assessment. Failure to meet the assessment criteria or satisfy the admission requirements will lead to the withdrawal of enrolment eligibility. It is imperative for entrants to register on time. Should any exceptional circumstances prevent timely reporting, written notification must be provided to the admitting college. Failure to register without valid reasons for more than one week will result in the revocation of enrolment eligibility.

X. Course system and graduation requirements:

The undergraduate program has a duration of four years and is primarily conducted in Chinese (with some courses offered in bilingual or English language instruction). Upon completion of the prescribed curriculum, satisfactory assessment results, and successful defense of the graduation thesis, students are awarded an undergraduate diploma. Those who meet the requirements for degree conferment are granted a Bachelor's degree.

For non-art master's programs, the duration is three years and the instruction is conducted in Chinese. Postgraduates must complete the prescribed curriculum within the designated period, pass the required assessments, and meet the graduation requirements. Upon meeting these criteria, the graduation certificate will be awarded. Students who meet the requirements for degree conferment will be granted the corresponding Master's degree and awarded a degree certificate.

Annex 1: List of Required Attachments for Online Applications by International Undergraduate Students

In the online application, original color scans of the following documents are required, including but not limited to. If admission eligibility is granted, the original documents must be provided during the registration process. Incomplete submission of application materials will result in the rejection of the application. During the review of uploaded application materials, there may be a request for some applicants to provide the original version/notarized copies of the application materials or certification documents issued by designated accreditation authorities for further verification. Applicants must ensure the authenticity and accuracy of the provided application information and materials.

Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of admission eligibility.
