Associate Professor Cai Mengqi of the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering at Chengdu University (CDU) won the Third Prize in the China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award. This recognition comes as a result of his leadership in a research project focused on the application of key intelligent early warning and disaster mitigation technologies for wind-induced vibration of UHV transmission lines. CDU serves as the first completion unit of this project.

Led by the CDU, the research group has overcome the key technological problems associated with intelligent wind-induced vibration prediction of UHV transmission lines through testing and R&D efforts, theoretical advancements, and the implementation of intelligent prediction models. During the R&D phase, the project was supported by the National Major Research Instrument Development Programme, the National Natural Science Foundation of Chinaand other projects. At the same time, it was applied to a number of major scientific and technological projects of the State Grid Corporation of China. The results of this project have garnered immense recognition and utilization among domestic and international experts in the field, and have generated good social and economic value.

The project falls into an interdisciplinary field that involves cutting-edge civil engineering technologies as well as engineering generic technologies. This award has significantly enhanced CDU's reputation for its continued commitment to interdisciplinary studies, cutting-edge technology exploration, and engineering, has laid a solid foundation for future research cooperation and exchanges as well as the advancement of its civil engineering disciplines.

The China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award is a comprehensive science and technology award for the national machinery industry, which was jointly established by the China Machinery Industry Federation and the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society and approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology, in accordance with the Regulation on National Science and Technology Awards and the Measures for the Administration of the Establishment of Science and Technology Awards by Non-governmental Sectors. It functions as a crucial channel for submitting applications for the national science and technology award. The selection of this Award is based on an evaluation mechanism through expert meetings on an annual basis.
