The Stanford University research team has recently updated the World's Top 2% Scientists list published in Elsevier’s Mendeley Data (October 2023 data-update for "Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators"). A total of 12 scholars from Chengdu University (CDU) were selected for the list. Four scholars including Professor Wang Qingyuan and Professor Abdelfatah Abomohra have been selected for the list of "Scientists with Career Influence", while 12 scholars including Professor Wang Qingyuan and Research Fellow Shi Kaibo have been included in the list of "Annual Influential Scientists", reaching a record high.

Under the "talent strategy" of CDU, the Science and Technology Department has been making full use of advantageous resources to actively conduct scientific research. It combines relevant national, provincial, and municipal documents, focuses on the strategic deployment of the "541" goal by the Communist Party of China Chengdu Municipal Committee and Chengdu Municipal People's Government as well as the strategic development planning and key Party and government work of CDU, and adheres to the spirit of "pursuing innovation-driven development, strengthening organized scientific research, and promoting high-level self-reliance and self-improvement". This has strongly promoted the rapid development of CDU's overall scientific research level and influence and made many remarkable achievements. CDU's two scholars have been selected for the list of 2022 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers released by Elsevier, hitting a new record. This reflects CDU's progressive improvement in the structure and quantity of international talents and global top scientists. The influence of CDU’s talents and the impact of its scientific research are improving globally. According to the latest data from the Web of Science, CDU has published more than 1,100 high-level papers this year, making a historical breakthrough in publishing papers in top academic journals such as Nature, Nature Communications, and Cell Research. This represents one of the most visible scientific research achievements of CDU this year. The latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) citation thresholds released by Clarivate Analytics show that the Materials Science discipline of CDU has entered the top 1% of ESI in the world. So far, a total of four disciplines of CDU have entered the ESI global top 1%. Meanwhile, CDU's 205 papers have been selected as ESI Highly Cited Papers, ranking 106th in China, which breaks the historical record.

The Stanford University World's Top 2% Scientists list is a globally influential project between Elsevier and the research team led by Professor John P. A. Ioannidis from Stanford University, published on Elsevier’s Mendeley Data website. The list is based on Elsevier's Scopus database as well as six indicators including the number of citations, H-index, and HM-Index. The world's top 2% of scientists are selected from a comprehensive assessment of 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields, based on its "Career-long" and "Single Year" impact indicators. The list is published to provide a measure of scientists' long-term scientific research performance and to reflect scientists' influence in a more objective and realistic way.
