CDU Signs A Cooperation Agreement with Francisk Skorina Gomel State University in Belarus

On September 1, the signing ceremony of an intergovernmental cooperation agreement between Sichuan Province and Gomel Region, Republic of Belarus, was held in Chengdu. Huang Qiang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, met with a delegation led by Ivan Krupko, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Gomel Region, Belarus. They together witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Education of Sichuan Province and the Education Department of the Gomel Region, the MoU between Sichuan Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Executive Committee of Gomel Region, and the cooperation agreement between Chengdu University (CDU) and Francisk Skorina Gomel State University in Belarus. Wang Qingyuan, President of CDU and its Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, was invited to attend the signing ceremony of the intergovernmental cooperation agreement between Sichuan Province and Gomel Region, Belarus. He also signed the cooperation agreement with Francisk Skorina Gomel State University in Belarus on behalf of CDU.

Huang Qiang extended a welcome to Chairman Ivan Krupko for his visit to Sichuan and briefed him on Sichuan's economic and social development. He hoped that the visit of Chairman Ivan Krupko would serve as an opportunity to establish a multi-level cooperation mode among friendly cities, strengthen exchanges and cooperation such as joint operation of universities and medical technology, and promote their relationship to a new level.

Ivan Krupko said that he hoped to significantly increase the trade volume between the two regions and deepen exchanges and cooperation in culture and education by exploring the openness of the China-Europe Railway Express and setting up business representative offices in Sichuan so as to better benefit the people of both regions.

Andrey Konyushko, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of Gomel Region, and Emelyanov, Consul General of Belarus in Chongqing, as well as leading officials from relevant provincial departments and Chengdu Municipal People's Government attended the signing ceremony.

This year, with the care and support of the Foreign Affairs Office of Sichuan Province, CDU has strengthened exchanges and cooperation with higher educational institutions in Belarus. In May, Yuri Senko, Ambassador of Belarus to China, and Dmitry Emelyanov, Consul General of Belarus in Chongqing, led a delegation to visit CDU and attended the inauguration of the "CDU-Belarus Culture and Art Exchange Center". In June, the President of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno in Belarus led a delegation to visit CDU. The two universities officially established a friendly cooperative relationship and signed cooperation agreements.

Francisk Skorina Gomel State University is a leading university in Belarus. It was founded in 1939 as Gomel Agro-Pedagogical Institute, renamed Gomel Pedagogical Institute in 1933 and Gomel State University again in 1969, and honored with the title of Skorina (a famous educationalist in Belarus) in 1988. The University also has two research institutes and 15 scientific research laboratories, including the International Chinese-Belarusian Scientific Laboratory for Vacuum-Plasma Technologies and International Polish-Belarusian Scientific Laboratory of Sol-gel Materials and Technologies.
