27 Majors of Chengdu University Included in "Double 10,000 Initiative" for First-class Undergraduate Major Construction

The Ministry of Education (MOE) has released a list of national and provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites in 2021 (the third batch). Seven majors of our university were affirmed as national first-class majors and six majors as provincial first-class ones. So far, a total of 27 majors in three batches of our university have been selected as the "Double 10,000 Initiative" for the development of first-class undergraduate majors, of which 15 are national-level. The total number of approved majors ranks among the top province-owned local universities, accounting for 41% of the number of majors enrolled in our university.

In 2019, the MOE launched the "Double 10,000 Initiative" for the construction of first-class undergraduate majors, which is expected to build about 10,000 national and provincial first-class undergraduate majors respectively. The plan developed by the MOE is seen as a crucial initiative to promote the construction of "New Engineering, New Medicine, New Agriculture and New Arts". Its goal is to revitalize undergraduate education, help colleges and universities better cultivate talent, and achieve the connotative development of higher education. Currently, full efforts have been made to move towards the "Double 10,000 Initiative".

In recent years, we have always been putting undergraduate education first, promoting the "four returns", and prioritizing major construction. We seek to establish a high-quality undergraduate talent training system. We have issued a series of regulations, such as the Regulations on Dynamic Adjustment of Undergraduate Majors of Chengdu University and on Construction of First-class Majors of Chengdu University. We also implement a mechanism for the linkage and categorized development of three-level (national, provincial, and university level) first-class majors in a bid to promote both construction by evaluation and progressive cultivation. We have invested nearly RMB 120 million to develop such projects as first-class major, first-class course, ideological and political course 1212, first-class classroom reform, first-class practical education, and first-class quality assurance for enhancing major competitiveness through various approaches and systematic support.

We stay committed to "talent strategy", "characteristics strategy" and "internationalization strategy" to take a lead in cultivating high-quality, application-oriented talent. We promote deep integration between our university and the city and gather resources for discipline development. We take the discipline as the basis to achieve the integrated construction of disciplines and majors. We attract and nurture first-class talent, while enriching the professional faculty. We develop high-quality scientific research to feed the construction of first-class majors. We implement the "internationalization strategy" to empower the building of first-class majors, and take multiple measures, such as system guarantee, incentive strengthening to enhance the connotative major construction and development.

Going forward, and guided by the "Double 10,000 Initiative", we will take the approval of national and provincial first-class major construction projects as an opportunity to reinforce professional connotation construction. We continue to promote professional dynamic adjustment, optimize the professional settings, and conduct three types of professional certification. We will also improve the professional quality assurance system, play a leading role in the demonstration of first-class professional construction sites, and upgrade the overall level of professional construction. In line with talent cultivation for "high-quality development", we will focus on "four new construction" and emphasize discipline development. As a result, we can consolidate new infrastructure, deepen new teaching reform, create a new model of education and teaching, and improve talent training quality.
