According to the Sichuan Provincial Development and Reform Commission's list of Provincial-level Engineering Research Centers approved in 2021, the CDU’s application for establishing the Sichuan Engineering Research Center for Urban Solid Waste Energy and Building Materials Transformation and Utilization Technology has been successful. This is our second Provincial-level Engineering Research Center and the 12th Provincial/Ministerial-level research platform in natural science.

Sichuan Provincial Engineering Research Centers serve as important channels to transform basic research results into engineering technology, and constitute Sichuan's independent innovation system.  They are R&D entities based on key enterprises, research institutions, and colleges and universities, focusing on the development of strategic emerging industries and the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries. The Engineering Research Centers approved have a solid foundation and conditions for research, first-rate R&D equipment, professional talent teams, sound management and operation models, and long-term, efficient industry-university-research cooperation mechanisms.

The Sichuan Engineering Research Center for Urban Solid Waste Energy and Building Materials Transformation and Utilization Technology will be supported by the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering at CDU. It will be based on the major demand of the green and low-carbon urban development and "no-waste cities", and oriented by its equal focus on theoretical and technological innovation, promotion, and application. It involves basic research on urban solid waste transformation and utilization technology, the application and transformation of high and new technology, and high-quality professional training, thus achieving the goal of low-carbon, clean and efficient transformation and utilization of urban solid waste.
