Chengdu University Kicks off the 6th International Week
Global Competence and Sustainable Development

On the morning of October 28, a crisp fall day, the Opening Ceremony of the sixth "International Week" of Chengdu University was held at the lecture hall of the Academic Exchange Center. The Opening Ceremony was attended by: Shen Peng, Member of the Education Working Committee of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee, Member and Deputy Director of the Leading Party Group of Chengdu Municipal Education Bureau; Dr. Eden Y Woon, President of the Asian Institute of Technology; Prof. Dirk Sackmann, Vice President of Merseburg University of Applied Sciences in Germany; Dr. Tang Zhenfu, Director of the Academic Exchange and Research Department of the China Education Association for International Exchange; Ms. Sun Zhen, Deputy General Manager of Beijing Pilot Media Co., Ltd; Wang Qingyuan, President of Chengdu University; and Peng Xiaolin and Wang Xiaojun, both Members of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice Presidents of Chengdu University.

Shen Peng, on behalf of Chengdu Municipal Education Bureau, extended his warm congratulations to the International Week. He highly praised the International Week for its innovative theme of “Global Competence and Sustainable Development” that are aligned with the United Nations, saying that it demonstrates the mission of a contemporary university. He believed and hoped that the teachers and students of Chengdu University would gain a lot from their participation and lay the foundation for their future development.

      Wang Qingyuan delivered the opening speech and announced the official opening of the sixth International Week of Chengdu University. He mentioned that Chengdu University has made remarkable achievements in its internationalization strategy in recent years. Chengdu University will continue to deepen education reform, be more open in education, and strive to promote the sustainable development of teachers and students and enhance global competence. He encouraged the teachers and students of Chengdu University to take an active part in the International Exchange (Course) Week, and hoped that Chengdu University could further deepen cooperation with first-class universities at home and abroad and jointly explore the path of sustainable development education.

In the session of keynote speeches by experts, Dr. Eden Y Woon delivered a keynote speech entitled "How AIT Sails Through the Perfect Storm?" online. Prof. Dirk Sackmann also delivered a keynote speech entitled "Supply Chain Finance in the Management of Food Supply Chains in Developing Countries" online. Dr. Tang Zhenfu gave an online presentation entitled "Opportunities and Challenges of Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools in the Post-epidemic Era".

It's reported that the International Week, with the theme of "Global Competence and Sustainable Development", is a combination of "online and offline", "professional education and general education", and "expert lectures and student activities". There were 28 lectures given by 20 invited experts and scholars from 5 countries including Germany, Thailand and the UK, as well as SDG Youth Forum for Chinese and foreign students on different topics, online communication between Chinese and Japanese college students, and so on. The topics of the lectures include "How to Face the Challenges in the Post-epidemic Era", "Need for Data Analysis as a Key Capability", etc.; Topics of the SDG Youth Forum include "Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure", "Sustainable Cities and Communities", etc. The multi-theme, multi-form and multi-perspective international exchange (courses) brought practical and comprehensive "new experience of international exchange" to teachers and students, and built a good platform for the internationalization of talent cultivation, faculty building, scientific research, and service city.
