The Opening Ceremony of Stirling College, Chengdu University Held Successfully

The opening ceremony of Stirling College, Chengdu University was held on September 6 at the Student Activity Center of Chengdu University. Raj Maan, Commercial Consul at British Consulate-General in Chongqing, and Chen Zhaoxian, member of Party Leading Group and Deputy Director of the Education Department of Sichuan Province, attended the ceremony. Neville Wylie (attended online), Deputy Principal of the University of Stirling, and Liu Qiang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Chengdu University, witnessed the launch of the Stirling College together.


Raj Maan was delighted to attend the ceremony in his congratulatory speech. As he said, the Stirling College represents Chengdu University's commitment to its strategy of "internationalization". As one of the most innovative cities in China, Chengdu is a place where its culture, education, science and technology are thriving, with a mixture of history and modernity. The launch of Stirling College, Chengdu University will further contribute to the internationalization of Sichuan's education sector.


During the ceremony, Liu Qiang awarded the appointment letter of the Director of the U.K. Exchange Center, Chengdu University to Xie Jingru who is the Head of the Executive Team from the UK side. Liu Qiang mentioned in his speech that, the Stirling College is set up to serve Chengdu's urban development strategy and the 31st FISU World University Games. It is also considered as a new platform and carrier for the university's aspiration for internationalization. Both parties will keep working together to integrate high-quality educational resources and improve the school-running capability, with the purpose of cultivating high-level skill-oriented talents catering to the full-chain demands generated in the post-pandemic age and the age of big data and convergence media.


The Principal of the University of Stirling, Gerry McCormac, sent his congratulation on the establishment of the Stirling College through video, in which he also expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Education of China and the Education Department of Sichuan Province for their support. He said Chengdu University and the University of Stirling share a lot of common ground for joint development. With combined strengths, the two universities will together explore opportunities in international education and collaboration and build a better future.


In front of all guests and students, the Deans of Stirling College from two sides unveiled the nameplate for the college. Tang Yiqian, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Chengdu University, granted the awards of "Cooperative Colleges" to the College of Physical Education, College of Computer Science and College of Literature and Journalism. In addition, Chengdu University was approved to be one of the "IELTS recognizing organizations" by the British Council. During the ceremony, Peng Xiaolin, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Chengdu University, received the license on behalf of the university.

Jointly founded by Chengdu University and the University of Stirling, the Stirling College, Chengdu University was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2021 as a Chinese-foreign cooperative educational institution with a non-independent legal status. It is the sixth Chinese-foreign cooperative educational institution of Sichuan Province and the first one that represents universities governed directly by the Chengdu Education Bureau, as well as the first one of this kind in China that is oriented by the themes of "health and sports".
