Information Processing and Control Engineering Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center

Development History

Founded in 1982, the Center was subordinated to the previous Department of Wireless Studies. Certified by Sichuan Basic Course Teaching Laboratory in June 1999, the Electronic Basics Laboratory of the Center was honored as the Sichuan Provincial Excellent Laboratory. In a bid to adapt to the development of the disciplines and industrial needs, the university-level Information Processing and Control Engineering Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center was founded in October 2010 and was certified as Sichuan Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center in December 2016.

Teaching System and Faculty

The Center has formed the pattern of "Three in One", featured by the support of specialized laboratories, the link of research, practice & training platforms and the output of innovation centers. At present, the Center owns 11 specialized laboratories, 6 research, practice & training platforms, and 1 innovation center jointly built by 12 innovation offices. Rooted in the disciplines of Electronic Science and Technology, Control Science and Engineering, the Center has invested more than RMB 8 million in the past five years. The laboratory covers an area of over 2,600 square meters, with a total value of RMB 13 million in the various instruments and equipment. The 4-level experiment teaching system has taken shape, comprising disciplinary basic experiments, professional basic experiments, professional comprehensive experiments, disciplinary comprehensive and innovative experiments. There are 29 full-time and part-time teachers in the Center, including 13.8% of professors, 43.9% of deputy professors and senior engineers, and 34.5% of lecturers. Among them, 17.2% of the teachers hold doctoral degrees and 69% have master's degrees.

Objective and Achievement

Centering upon the talent cultivation objective of an application-oriented city university, the Center insists on interdisciplinary integration, coordinated development and nurturing students' competency in both engineering and practice. It is based on Chengdu, facing Southwest China and radiating the whole nation. The Center has acted in the principle of "integrated resources, sharing and opening" to develop the experimental teaching work, "centering upon students, prioritizing innovation, dedicating to enhanced competency and balanced development", and has formed a diversified innovative competency cultivation mode, under the guiding spirit of broad access, a solid foundation, enhancing student competency and highlighting innovation.

In recent years, a total of 23 experimental teaching reform projects of the Center at the national, provincial, municipal and university levels have been identified. It has published 21 textbooks, won 8 teaching awards at and above the provincial level, published 61 papers on teaching reform, and presided over 29 College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Programs. The students have won 380 national awards in entrepreneurial and innovative activities and disciplinary competitions under the guidance of the Center, published 8 papers, and applied for 7 patented software copyrights.
