The Business School of Chengdu University is one of the largest and oldest schools of the university. When Chengdu University was founded in 1978, it set up the undergraduate specialty of business management in 1979, and founded the Department of Business Management in 1981. It established the School of Management based on the Department of Management in 2006, the School of Economics and Management in 201, and the Business School in 2018. Adhering to the educational philosophy of "cultivating business elites and promoting social progress", and adhering to the School motto of "being virtuous and erudite and doing business for the world", the School is committed to cultivating high-quality applied business talent with a solid professional foundation, a broad international vision, high social responsibility and strong innovative spirit.
Organizational Structure: The School has three departments, namely, the Department of Business Administration, the Department of Accounting, and the Department of Economics, as well as organizations such as the Party and Administration Office, the Student Affairs Office, the Educational Administration Office, the Experimental and Training Administration Office, the Scientific Research Management Office, the Postgraduate Management Office (Discipline Construction Office), the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, and the Training Center. In addition, the Chengdu Auditing Society is also affiliated with the School.
Disciplines and Specialties: The School has two major disciplinary catagetories — "Management" and "Economics", with two first-level disciplines of "Business Administration" and "Applied Economics". There are four undergraduate specialties of Accounting, Financial Management, Auditing and Business Administration under the first-level discipline of "Business Administration", and an undergraduate specialty of International Economics and Trade under the first-level discipline of "Applied Economics". Among them, Accounting is a provincial first-class specialty construction site, a provincial application-oriented demonstration specialty and a characteristic specialty in Chengdu. In terms of master's degree-granting units, the School has an academic master's degree-granting unit of the first-level discipline of "Business Administration" and a degree-granting unit of Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc). The School enrolls and trains academic postgraduate students in Accounting, Business Management and Tourism Management under the academic master's degree-granting unit of the first-level discipline of "Business Administration", and professional degree postgraduates in Accounting Theory and Practice, Financial Management Theory and Practice, and Auditing Theory and Practice under the MPAcc degree-granting unit.
Teaching Staff: The School now has 99 faculty members, of which 78 are full-time teachers, accounting for 78% of the total faculty members. Among the full-time teachers, there are 12 teachers with senior titles (professors and researchers, etc.), accounting for 15%; 35 sub-senior titles (associate professors and associate researchers, etc.), accounting for 45%; and 54 teachers with doctoral degrees, accounting for 70%. Among the full-time teachers, there are 2 experts entitled to special allowance from the State Council, 1 famous accountant awarded by the Ministry of Finance, 1 chief expert of major projects of the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC), 1 winner of awards of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 1 academic and technical leader in Sichuan Province, 3 candidates for academic and technical leaders in Sichuan Province, 2 outstanding experts with outstanding contributions in Sichuan Province, 1 expert of the "Thousand Talents Program" in Sichuan Province, 1 distinguished expert of Sichuan Provincial Returned Overseas Chinese Federation, 2 distinguished associate researchers, 3 distinguished Changjiang Scholars, 1 member of Chengdu CPPCC, 1 expert from Chengdu Science and Technology Evaluation Center and 1 expert member of Chengdu City Conditions Research Center. In addition, the School has hired more than 50 leaders and senior managers of famous enterprises and public institutions to serve as off-campus supervisors for its students.
Talent Training: Focusing on the fundamental task of "cultivating people by virtue", the School adheres to the principle of "taking undergraduate education as the core" and promotes the concept of "returning to common sense, duty, original aspirations and dream", comprehensively improving the quality of personnel training. In recent years, more than 20 national, provincial and ministerial education and teaching research and teaching reform projects of the School have been approved, and more than 10 industry-university cooperative education projects of the Ministry of Education have been established. It has also set up 1 national online and offline mixed golden course, 2 UOOC online courses, 8 applied demonstration courses in Sichuan Province, and 4 MOOC courses. It has won two first prizes of Sichuan Teaching Achievement Award and five Teaching Achievement Awards of Chengdu University. In the past five years, its students have won more than 100 discipline competitions at the provincial and ministerial level or above, such as the "Challenge Cup", "China College Students Entrepreneurship Competition", "Internet Plus" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, National College Student E-Commerce "Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship" Challenge, National University Student Market Survey and Analysis Competition, and National Contest on Logistics Design by University Students. More than 15 national, provincial and ministerial college students' innovative entrepreneurial training plan programs have been established, and more than 40 research papers have been published by students. At present, it has 2,240 full-time students, including 109 postgraduates and 2,131 undergraduates.
Scientific Research: In the past five years, the School has undertaken 6 projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and NSSFC, more than 30 provincial and ministerial projects, and more than 100 bureau-level projects, with more than RMB 6 million of research funds. Teachers have published more than 500 papers, including more than 300 papers in SCI, SSCI, EI, CSSCI journals and Chinese core journals, and published over 40 academic monographs and textbooks. It has won 6 provincial and ministerial scientific research achievement awards, as well as 2 second prizes and 7 third prizes of the municipal scientific research achievement award. It has 7 decision-making consultation reports that were approved by the central government, the State Council or provincial and ministerial leaders or adopted by relevant government departments.
Local Services: Adhering to the university-city integration concept of taking root in, relying on and serving Chengdu, the School actively serves the great rise of Chengdu. With the "Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle Research Center", the philosophy and social science research base in Chengdu, the School is the vice president unit of Sichuan Institute for Economic Development Strategy, the president unit of Accounting Society of Chengdu, the executive director unit of Sichuan Society of Public Finance, the director unit of the Chinese Institute of Business Administration and the director unit of China Federation of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese. It has more than 10 research centers (institutes) of Chengdu University, including Chengdu Economic Development Research Center, Chengdu Regional Economic Research Center, Business Management Research Center, Business Administration Case Research Center and Financial Research Center.
International Exchanges: The School has established extensive exchanges and cooperation with well-known universities and research institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Thailand, Malaysia and other countries as well as Taiwan (China). It has carried out a 3+1+2 Bachelor-Master Joint Education Program in Economics with Thailand's NIDA University; a 3+1+2 Bachelor-Master Joint Education Program in Data Science with Thailand's Chiang Mai University; a 3+1+1 Bachelor-Master Joint Education Program in Business with the UK's Abertay University; a 3+1+1 Bachelor-Master Joint Education Program in Finance with University of New Hampshire in the United States; and an exchange program for undergraduate students majoring in Financial Management with Taiwan's Ming Chuan University. In the past three years, the School has sent more than 50 students to participate in overseas study and exchange programs, and organized and hosted more than 10 international academic conferences, academic seminars and academic lectures in different fields. At present, there are more than 50 foreign undergraduate students and more than 10 foreign postgraduate students in the School, and the number of international students is increasing year by year.
As an old line says, “A time will come to ride the wind and cleave the waves; I’ll set my cloud-like sail to cross the sea which raves”, all faculty members of the Business School will, with an eye to the future, adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and conscientiously implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Plenary Sessions of the 19th National Congress, as well as that of the Seventh Party Congress of Chengdu University, join the hands and forge ahead, striving to build Business School into a high-level business school that conforms to Chengdu's international status!
