The Law School developed from the Department of Political Science established in 1988, and began to enroll law students in 1999 and undergraduate law students in 2003. In 2006, the university established the School of Economics, Political Science and Law, under which the Department of Law was established. In 2010, the School of Political Science was established, and the Department of Law was affiliated with the School of Political Science. In May 2018, the Law School was established. Now the school has two undergraduate specialties: law and social work. The school began to enroll students majoring in Social Work in 2019.

Currently, the school has 36 faculty members, including 28 full-time teachers and 18 teachers with the doctoral degree. The number of teachers with the title of the senior professional post accounts for 42.86% of the total number of full-time teachers, and the number of double qualified teachers accounts for 71.43%. A team of highly educated, young and double qualified teachers has been preliminarily formed; its structure is relatively reasonable. Up to 2019, the school had trained more than 1,200 graduates for the society.

The school adheres to the concept of people orientation and quality first so as to steadily promote the reform of law education and teaching. In 2012, it was approved as an“Pilot Unit of Comprehensive Major Reform in Sichuan Province”; in 2015, it was approved as“Off-campus Demonstration Practice Teaching Base for Education and Training of Outstanding Legal Talents in Sichuan Province”. In 2019, the law specialty was approved as one of “the Second Batch of Application-oriented Demonstration Majors of Local Ordinary Colleges and Universities in Sichuan Province”; “Evidence Law”was approved as one of “he First Batch of Application-oriented Demonstration Courses of Local Ordinary Colleges and Universities in Sichuan Province”; “Simulation and Practical Training System Construction Project of Law Major” was approved as one of the industry-university cooperative education projects of the Ministry of Education. The school attaches great importance to specialty construction; the law specialty was approved as "First-class Undergraduate Major Construction in Sichuan Province" in 2019. From 2012 to 2019, the school has won one third prize for provincial teaching achievements, two second prizes for school-level teaching achievements, and nine school-level education reform projects. It has one provincial quality course, four school-level quality courses, two MOOC courses, and one school-level demonstration course of “Curriculum Ideology and Politics.”

The school pays attention to the cultivation of students’ professional ability, practical ability and comprehensive quality. Centering on the construction of new liberal arts and on the basis of the existing provincial first-class major construction, the school actively explores the development of new law disciplines. Centering on the key fields and key industries of regional economic and social construction, the school establishes the idea of “law + embedded”specialty construction. The school strengthens the integration with dominant and characteristic disciplines of the university, in a bid to cultivate inter-disciplinary, applied and innovative legal talents and form its own specialty development and characteristic development of talent training. Our students scored well in legal professional qualification examinations and postgraduate examinations. In 2018, the admission rate of fresh graduates for postgraduate entrance examination ranked third in the university, and the passing rate of the national unified legal professional qualification examination reached 52.22%. In 2017, 16.4% of our students were admitted as graduate students. In 2016, the school's “Start-up Team of Anti-domestic Violence Propaganda Melodrama”won the gold medal in the third“Creative Youth” Sichuan Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and the 7th College Graduates Entrepreneurship Competition. Our students have won the second and third prizes of philosophy and social science for three consecutive times in the Sichuan Province “Challenge Cup”Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition for College Students. The employment rate of graduates has remained above 95%, and the job-suited rate is relatively high.

Adhering to the road of strengthening the school through scientific research, the school has been awarded more than 10 projects approved by the state, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Justice, China Law Society and Sichuan Academy of Philosophy and Social Sciences, and more than 20 department-level and bureau-level projects. It has won one second prize of Excellent Achievements in Social Sciences of Sichuan Province, two second prizes and two third prizes of Excellent Achievements in Philosophy and Social Science of Chengdu. The school consists of Sichuan Anti-domestic Violence Knowledge Popularization Base, Chengdu Anti-domestic Violence Research Center, Chengdu University Urban Rule-of-law Research Center, and Chengdu University Rule-of-law Education Base. Adhering to the concept of“integration of school and city”, the school, as a law school of a municipal university, has the advantage of deeply serving the regional legal construction in more fields and with more links. It has conducted long-term, stable and in-depth cooperation with Sichuan Provincial Higher People’s Court, Sichuan Women's Federation, Political and Legal Committee of Chengdu Municipal Party Committee, Chengdu Intermediate People’s Court, Chengdu Justice Bureau, Chengdu Law Society, grassroots people’s courts, procuratorates and law firms in terms of research projects, decision-making consultation, talent training, legal publicity and legal services. The school has undertaken a number of application-oriented projects on local rule of law and social governance, paid attention to achievement transformation, and achieved good social service effect. The school was awarded the “Outstanding Contribution Unit of Law Research in Chengdu from 2015 to 2020” by the Political and Legal Committee of Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Law Society. It has played an important role in promoting the overall planning of urban and rural areas, the construction of governing the city by law and social governance in Chengdu.
