Clinical Medical College & Affiliated Hospital


The Clinical Medical College & Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University, formerly known as Shengxiu Hospital, was founded by the French Catholic Church in 1901. In 2010, it was transferred to Chengdu University. Since 2014, it has implemented an integrated management model of “college + hospital”.

As a 3A-grade comprehensive hospital offering medical treatment, teaching and scientific research, the Clinical Medical College & Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University was listed as one of the first national-level resident standardized training bases, a teaching base for the national orthopedic special competency training program, a clinical teaching base for higher medical schools in Sichuan Province, a training base for postgraduates of Zunyi Medical University and Chengdu University, a standardized training base for nurses in Sichuan Province, and a popularization base for first aid knowledge and skills of Chengdu University. It joined hands with China Railway Chengdu Group Co., Ltd. to launch the first “Health Train” in China and build a mobile 3A-grade hospital, creating a new mode of medical service. It was awarded the national honorary title of “Humanistic and Loving Hospital” (only two hospitals in Sichuan have received this honor), won the “China Humanistic Management Innovation Hospital” award, was rated as a “five-one” advanced group for poverty alleviation in Sichuan Province, and received the qualification of the national clinical drug trial institution. The Clinical Medical College & Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University has long been helping Shiqu People’s Hospital in Ganzi Prefecture and Jiuzhaigou People's Hospital in Aba Prefecture. It has been awarded the title of “five-one” advanced group in the project of imparting medical technology for poverty alleviation in Sichuan Province, thus being known locally as the “Galsang Flower on the Plateau.” During the COVID-19 outbreak in the first half of 2020, it has sent two batches of medical teams to Hubei Province, with a total of 48 members. They successfully accomplished the medical mission, reflecting their responsibility and commitment.

The Clinical Medical College & Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University covers an area of 54 mu, with 799 open beds, including 520 authorized ones; there are 600 beds in the surgical complex under construction. It adopts the management mode of “one hospital, two areas”. It owns 30 functional departments, 42 business departments, 16 teaching and research offices, 18 professional resident standardized training bases, and one professional diplomate standardized training base. The Department of Academic Affairs and the General Office are responsible for the management of clinical medicine education for undergraduates, postgraduates, graduates and adults, as well as the management of the clinical skills training center and the clinical skills experimental teaching center (under construction). The hospital now has 1,568 staff members, with 197 holding titles at or above the deputy senior level, 271 holding master’s or doctor’s degrees, 215 teachers from universities, nine postgraduate tutors, 16 provincial and municipal academic or technical leaders, and one recipient given special awards from the State Council.

The Clinical Medical College features a complete academic system and strong technical force. It possesses a teaching center, clinical skills training center, clinical skills experimental teaching center (under construction), a national clinical drug trial center, a national standardized metabolic disease management center, Chengdu Institute of Orthopaedic Trauma, Chengdu Orthopaedic Quality Control Center, a thoracic surgery quality control center, the Medical Robotics Interdisciplinary Research Center of Chengdu University, and three community practice bases. In the past five years, it has been approved of the construction of key medical laboratories of three disciplines (orthopedics, urinary surgery, and clinical genetics) of Sichuan Province, five provincial key medical specialties (cardiothoracic surgery, respiratory and critical care medicine, clinical laboratory, intensive care medicine, and emergency medicine), and five key medical disciplines (orthopedics, nursing, clinical pharmacy, stomatology, and imaging medicine) of Chengdu, thus forming a group of provincial and municipal key disciplines and a number of characteristic specialties. It has also undertaken 112 national, provincial and municipal scientific research programs, including two national key research and development projects, one General Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), one Youth Program of NSFC, and eight programs of the Science & Technology Department of Sichuan Province. It has edited and co-edited eight published monographs of various kinds. It has also published 374 scientific and technical papers, with 55 included into SCI Journal, 15 papers getting an impact factor (IF) score of five or above, and the total IF score reaching 379.256. Besides, it has organized the identification of three scientific and technological achievements, 16 patents for utility models, one invention patent and 11 software copyrights. Additionally, it won a third prize of the scientific and technological progress award issued by the Science & Technology Department of Sichuan Province, a first prize of the Huaxia Medical Science and Technology Award (participation), a third prize of the Sichuan Medical Science and Technology Award (youth), and a second prize of Chengdu Medical Science and Technology Award.

Faced with the new mission of implementing the Healthy China Initiative, the new requirements of global medical development and the new issues raised by COVID-19, the Clinical Medical College is taking the “Double 10,000 Initiative” of the Ministry of Education and the construction of the World University Games Village as an opportunity to deepen education and teaching reform and activate the endogenous power. It strives to establish a sound medical talent training system, improve medical research and innovation capabilities, further promote the connotative development of medical education, and train more medical and health talented persons to meet the needs of the industry, in a bid to better serve the implementation of the Healthy China Initiative and meet the growing health needs of the people.
