Yuan Yao is a part-time teacher of the College of Overseas Education, with a master's degree. She graduated from the College of Liberal Arts of Sichuan Normal University with a bachelor's degree in Chinese (Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language) and a master's degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, respectively. In her school years, she won first-class, second-class and third-class scholarships many times, the Encouragement Scholarship, the honorary title of "Outstanding Student", and the prizes in academic research knowledge contests. She obtained the Putonghua Level 2-A certificate, the Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Language (CTCSOL) issued by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), the qualification certificate for Chinese teachers in middle schools, the Certificate for HSK Administrator and the Level-5 Certificate of Soft Brush Calligraphy. In 2017, she was selected as a volunteer Chinese teacher for the Commission on Higher Education Thailand.

From September 2011 to June 2015, she worked as a Chinese teacher at the College of International Education of Sichuan Normal University and conducted one-on-one tutoring for international students; in 2014-2015, she taught Chinese Listening and Speaking, Calligraphy and the courses of the Summer Camp Program at the College of International Education.

From October 2016 to February 2017, she served as an online Chinese teacher of the global Chinese learning platform TutorMing, and was responsible for providing one-on-one Chinese teaching for learners from all over the world.

From July 2017 to May 2019, she served as a Chinese teacher (by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban)) at the School of Sinology of Mae Fah Luang University, where she was responsible for teaching the individual skills courses of Chinese Listening and Writing, comprehensive Chinese course, language knowledge courses (lexicology and ancient Chinese), and cultural courses (Chinese philosophy) and participated in the teaching of professional courses such as Business Chinese, Chinese Language and Culture, Chinese for Normal College Students, and Tourism Management; she participated in various activities organized by the School of Sinology and the Confucius Institute, and once served as an HSK administrator and a team leader at the School of Sinology in 2017. The students she taught (during her stay in Thailand) won many awards in the "HRH Princess Sirindhorn Cup" Composition Contest and the "China-Thailand Friendship" Composition Contest.

Since September 2019, she has served as a Chinese teacher and head teacher of the classes of overseas students at the College of Overseas Education, Chengdu University. She has taught such courses as Chinese Listening and Speaking, Chinese Writing and Chinese Characters. The students of her classes often achieve high grades, so she is highly spoken of by students. She has successively served as the head teacher of the International Student Class of Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University, the Class of Belarusian International Students, and the 2019 International Economic and Trade Class.

Message to Overseas Students: The ocean is vast because it admits hundreds of rivers. I hope that all students can understand Chinese stories while learning Chinese and experience cultural blending in the process of inclusive exchanges.
