On February 13, the Chiral and Biomimetic Synthesis Research Team from our School of Pharmacy published their latest research findings online in the international top-tier journal Advanced Science (CAS Q1 journal, IF: 14.3) with Chengdu University as the primary corresponding institution. The paper is titled "N-Heterocyclic Carbene Organocatalysis Enabled Modular Synthesis of Fluorinated Isoflavonoids to Suppress Proliferation and Migration in Breast Cancer Cells." Liu Yanqing, a doctoral student jointly trained by our university and Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is the first author of this paper. Professor Li Junlong is the corresponding author

This study represents the first instance of utilizing NHC radical catalysis to achieve 1,3-conjugation scarce 1,3,4-trifunctionalization. This breakthrough enables the efficient synthesis of fluorinated isoflavonoid molecules, providing a novel and green methodology for rapidly constructing small molecule compounds with significant medicinal value. Additionally, pharmacological experiments have confirmed that these compounds exhibit inhibitory effects on the proliferation and migration of breast cancer cell lines. These findings open new avenues for the development of drug molecules with therapeutic potential.

This work was strongly supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Sichuan Science and Technology Program, and Guangdong Key-Area Research and Development Program.

Advanced Science (Online ISSN: 2198-3844) is one of Wiley's prominent flagship journals, with a recent impact factor of 14.3, mainly publishing first-class basic and applied research in the fields of chemistry, medicine, and life sciences.
