From June 11 to 18, Peng Xiaolin, Vice President of Chengdu University, led a delegation to visit Singapore and Japan. They held collaborative discussions with universities including Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore in Singapore, as well as J. F. Oberlin University, Chiba University, and Kansai University of International Studies in Japan. During this period, the delegation also visited the Japan-China Cultural Exchange Center.
During the visit to Singapore, Peng Xiaolin met with Professor LEE Pooi See, Vice President of Nanyang Technological University, and Zoe Peters, Director of Student Affairs. Peng Xiaolin stated that this visit marked the first high-level talks between the two universities' presidents and expressed hope that this would be an opportunity to formally establish an inter-university cooperative relationship with Nanyang Technological University, fostering substantial cooperation in fields such as talent cultivation, scientific research collaboration, and faculty exchange. Professer LEE Pooi See highlighted the significant overlap between the two universities in their respective academic fields of strength. She also expressed the optimism for future collaboration in fields such as Artificial Intelligence and Mechanical Engineering through student exchange, joint training programs, and industry-academia-research partnerships. Using inter-disciplinary cooperation as a foundation, the two universities could deepen and solidify their collaborative relationship.
At the National University of Singapore, Peng Xiaolin held talks with Cassie Dong, Director of the School of Continuing and Lifelong Education, and the Director of the Joint Laboratory of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Peng Xiaolin stated that in the face of rapid global technological development, both universities share a common mission and vision of cultivating international talents with innovative spirit and practical abilities. She expressed the hope to further expand the exchange domain, deepen cooperation, and explore the possibilities of joint training programs for students at different levels in the future. Cassie Dong warmly welcomed the visit of Chengdu University's delegation, expressing anticipation for deepening bilateral cooperation, achieving complementary advantages, and engaging in pragmatic communications to promote student exchanges and visits.
At J. F. Oberlin University, Peng Xiaolin met with Yang Guangjun, Vice President, Nakamura Fumitake, Deputy Director of the International Department, and Liu Yu, Director of the Confucius Institute. Both parties introduced their respective universities and recent developments. Peng Xiaolin expressed hope to further the cooperation between the two universities in fields such as student communication, joint training, scientific research, and youth cultural dialogue, to enhance mutual understanding and deepen cultural exchange. Yang Guangjun warmly welcomed Peng Xiaolin's visit to J. F. Oberlin University and hoped for in-depth cooperation in joint talent training and academic research in the future.
During the visit to Chiba University, Peng Xiaolin held discussions with Vice President Professor Makoto Watanabe. Both parties introduced their respective universities and recent developments, and engaged in detailed discussions on cooperation in the field of industrial design, which is of mutual interest. They hoped that this visit would serve as a starting point to explore cooperative projects such as joint student training and short-term student exchange programs, to strengthen inter-university exchanges, and deepen cooperation between the two universities.
At Kansai University of International Studies, Peng Xiaolin met with Atsushi Hamana, President, Shingo Ashizawa, Vice President, and Kiyotaka Takahashi, Director of the International Department. Both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on promoting friendly cooperation between the two universities. Atsushi Hamana provided a detailed overview of the university's development and progress in its internationalization strategy, expressing anticipation for establishing friendly cooperation with Chengdu University. They discussed plans to collaborate on joint training programs in emergency management and teacher education, as well as initiatives in talent development and industry-academia-research cooperation. Peng Xiaolin highly praised Kansai University of International Studies' model for cultivating international talents and extended an invitation to President Atsushi Hamana to lead a delegation to visit and exchange with Chengdu University.
At the Japan-China Cultural Exchange Center, Peng Xiaolin met with Shuichi Ito, Director of Tokyo Office. The two parties reached a preliminary consensus on the future cooperation between Chengdu University and Japanese universities in credit exchange, short-term study tours, language learning and cooperative education.
Officials from the Student Affairs Office, College of Literature and Journalism, and College of Mechanical Engineering accompanied the visiting delegation.
