Professor Wang Qingyuan Elected as an Academician of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts

According to the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, Professor Wang Qingyuan, also President of Chengdu University, was recently elected as an academician for its Department of Technology and Environmental Sciences.

Professor Wang graduated from Ecole Centrale Paris, which is now known as Universite Paris-Saclay. His research fields involve new materials and structural mechanics, ultra-long life fatigue and reliability, structural durability, solid waste resource utilization, and low-carbon new material technologies. Professor Wang has dedicated himself to fostering technological and educational exchange and cooperation between China and Europe for more than 20 years. He has conducted scientific research and academic exchanges as a visiting professor at the Clausthal University of Technology in Germany, the Paris-Est Sup in France, and the University of Liverpool in the UK, and presided over the Cai Yuanpei Project, a China-France science and technology cooperation initiative. He has published over 60 theses together with 12 doctors jointly cultivated with European universities. These theses have been included in the Web of Science. Additionally, Professor Wang has promoted the joint cultivation of over 200 Chinese and European undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students and organized six bilateral academic conferences. In 2022, he won the European Advanced Materials Award presented by the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM). Three students and team members have received financial support from the Humboldt Research Fellowship in Germany.

Professor Wang is the winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Leader of Innovative Team of the Program for Changjiang Scholars by the Ministry of Education, a Tianfu Outstanding Scientist, and an academic and technological leader in Sichuan Province. He has published over 100 theses in top journals, including IJ Fatigue, IJP, JMPS, AFM, Adv Mater, Adv Sci, Nature Commu, Nature, and the journal in Zone 1 of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Furthermore, in 2014-2022, Professor Wang was honored as one of the Highly Cited Chinese Researchers by Elsevier and included in the World's Top 2% Scientists list by Stanford University. He received the National Second Prize for Natural Science, the First Prize for Natural Science from the Ministry of Education, two First Prizes for Scientific and Technological Progress in Sichuan Province, and the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics as the first author. In 2019, he was nominated as a candidate for selection as a new academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
