The 2023 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) was officially released on August 15. Chengdu University (CDU) was ranked 901-1,000 globally and 171-179 in China, 909th and 174th respectively. The indicators of the ARWU of Shanghai Ranking Consultancy include the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the number of highly cited researchers selected by Clarivate, the number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science, the number of international articles indexed in Science Citation Index - Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, and per capita performance of a university. CDU performs the best in the number of international articles, ranking 547th in the world.

The ARWU is released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, a world-renowned higher education evaluation agency, showcasing the world's top 1,000 universities. A total of 191 universities in mainland China are on the list, with eight in Sichuan and CDU on the list for the first time this year.

CDU adheres to national education policy, implements the fundamental task of establishing moral values, and insists on the direction of application-oriented development. It demonstrates the characteristics of city universities, implements the strategic plan of “Ten Years and Three Steps”, and seeks to achieve breakthroughs in the strategies of “Talents, Characteristics and Internationalization”. Hence, the comprehensive strength of CDU has been significantly improved, realizing a breakthrough in the four prestigious world university rankings of the QS, ARWU, Times Higher Education, and U.S. News. CDU has three ESI top 1% disciplines in the world, and has been selected as one of the “111 program” Discipline Innovation and Intellectual Intelligence Bases, enabling itself to reach a new high.
