On the afternoon of May 8, Pongruk Sribanditmongkol, President of Chiang Mai University led a delegation to visit Chengdu University (CDU). Liu Qiang, Secretary of the Party Committee of CDU, Peng Xiaolin, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of CDU, warmly welcomed the guests at the meeting hall of the Academic Exchange Center. The two sides held friendly talks on comprehensive cooperation between the two universities.
On behalf of Chengdu CDU, Secretary Liu Qiang extended a warm welcome to President Pongruk Sribanditmongkol and his delegation, and introduced in detail the implementation and progress of CDU's talent strategy, characteristic strategy and international development strategy in recent years. Additionally, he highlighted the significant opportunities that will arise from hosting the Athletes’ Village for the 31st FISU Summer World University Games 2021. He fully affirmed the achievements of CDU's cooperation with Chiang Mai University in recent years. The two sides have carried out substantial cooperation through teacher visits, student exchanges and learning, joint training of masters and doctors, as well as scientific research collaboration, laying a solid foundation for further profound cooperation in the future. He emphasized that CDU will persist in implementing its international development strategy, further enhancing diversified cooperation with the partner institution in areas such as talent cultivation, cultural exchange and scientific research. The university will offer more opportunities for students and faculty members to participate in "dual-campus" study tours, so as to broaden their global perspectives and enhance the quality of international talent training.
President Pongruk Sribanditmongkol expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from CDU. He provided a detailed introduction to the development history and advantageous disciplines of Chiang Mai University, and reviewed the exchanges and cooperation between the two universities over the past decade. He mentioned that as one of the most time-honored universities in Thailand, Chiang Mai University boasts abundant teaching resources and top-notch facilities to create a high-quality learning environment for students from all over the world. He expressed his delight in visiting CDU and praised the successful implementation of various programs, such as joint training for overseas students, international student education, and teacher-student exchanges between the two universities. He hoped that with the support of the governments of the two countries and the Belt and Road Initiative, the two sides could work together to innovate cooperation models, and promote talent training, discipline co-construction, scientific research and other aspects, making positive contributions to the development of higher education in both China and Thailand.
After the meeting, the guests visited the MOE National and Regional Research Filing Center—Thailand Research Center in Sichuan Province and the Athletes' Village for the 31st FISU Summer World University Games 2021. Representatives from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, School of Tourism and Culture Industry, College of Literature and Journalism, Stirling College, and College of Chinese & ASEAN Arts International Department participated in the exchange activities.
