On the afternoon of March 29, Aphicha Insuwan, President of Payap University, Thailand, led a delegation to visit Chengdu University (CDU). President Wang Qingyuan met the guests in the VIP room. Vice President Peng Xiaolin also attended the event.
President Wang extended a warm welcome to President Aphicha Insuwan and his delegation, and briefed on them the development of our university. He said that CDU has been latching onto the international development strategy, and is the first university in Sichuan Province to set up a Thai language major for undergraduates. Thailand is also one of the important countries for CDU to conduct international cooperation. The university has carried out in-depth cooperation with many universities in Thailand in various fields to promote educational cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. President Wang hoped that in the future, the Payap Campus of Chengdu University in Thailand jointly built by the two universities can carry out joint training programs for postgraduates and Ph.D. students in tourism, art and education, and further innovate the cooperation model in teaching and scientific research.
President Aphicha Insuwan introduced the history and development of Payap University, and expressed his pleasure in visiting CDU for the first time. He attached great importance to the joint research-oriented overseas branch school project between the two universities, and invited the teachers and students of CDU to visit Payap University for exchange and research cooperation. The delegation gave a positive response to CDU's proposal to deepen cooperation, and hoped that the two sides could further expand the areas for cooperation, and carry out joint training programs for postgraduates and Ph.D. students in more areas, alongside scientific research cooperation, teacher-student exchange, and personnel exchanges.
Subsequently, the two sides conducted in-depth discussions on student exchanges, teacher exchange visits, joint training, and postgraduate programs. After the meeting, the guests visited the Thailand Research Center of Chengdu University and the College of Chinese & ASEAN Arts.
The delegation consists of several leaders from Payap University, including Kriangsak Phramphun, Director of the Center for Research and Academic Services, Rien Loveemongkol, Deputy Director of the Center for Research and Academic Services, and Patchara Boonteerarak, Dean of the International College. Officials from CDU's Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Social Science Department, School of Tourism and Culture Industry, and School of Music and Dance attended the exchange activity.

Payap University, established in 1974, is a privately-owned institution founded by the Church of Christ in Thailand. Initially, the university comprised only the McCormick Hospital School of Nursing, the McGilvary Theological Seminary, and the College of Music. However, over the years, the university has undergone significant development to become Payap University in 2000. It is currently a member of several prestigious organizations, including the Association of Private Higher Education Institutions in Thailand, the Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia (ACUCA), and the Association of Southeast Asian Institute of Higher Learning (ASAIHL). It is also the first private university in northern Thailand.
Payap University is situated in Chiangmai, the second-largest city in Thailand, which is renowned as "Thailand's Rose of the North". The university is divided into three campuses. The university has the authority to award bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. degrees. The academic credentials conferred by the university are mutually recognized by both China and Thailand. Moreover, the university has established long-term partnerships with several renowned international universities, which provides excellent opportunities for student exchanges and students' further studies. In March 2019, CDU and Payap University formally established a friendly cooperative relationship and signed a memorandum of cooperation. In December 2021, the two universities jointly built the Payap Campus of Chengdu University. Following the establishment of the Payap Campus, the two universities aim to leverage their existing education and teaching resources to carry out talent training cooperation and joint research in multiple disciplines and professional fields in the future.
