Yu Shuhong, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor at the University of Science and Technology of China, and Director of the Division of Nanomaterials and Chemistry, Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Science at the Microscale, visited Chengdu University (CDU) on the morning of December 20. Wang Qingyuan, President and Deputy Secretary of CDU, hosted a meeting with Prof. Yu at the VIP room in the CDU library. Tang Yiqian, Vice President of CDU, also attended the meeting.
Wang Qingyuan extended a warm welcome to Prof. Yu and introduced CDU in terms of its overview, talent cultivation, and scientific research. He noted that the establishment of the Institute of Advanced Studies at CDU in 2016 has brought together outstanding researchers at home and abroad to carry out basic research, applied research, and key engineering technology research around major strategic and scientific frontier issues at the national, provincial, and municipal levels. He hoped that Academician Yu could guide and assist in the development of the Institute, and looked forward to academic exchanges, research cooperation, and talent cultivation cooperation in chemistry, materials, and other disciplines.
Prof. Yu visited the Institute of Advanced Studies and fully recognized its development and research conditions. He said the establishment of the Institute is a wise measure for the innovation of the university's research system and is crucial to the university's development. It is necessary to make full use of the role of the Institute as an important platform and support for the high-level development of disciplines. He also expressed his intention to cooperate with CDU in both joint training for master’s and doctoral candidates and mutual visits of researchers.
After the meeting, Prof. Yu gave a seminar titled "Synthesis and Future of Biomimetic Materials" in the library's lecture hall. He elaborated on the preparation of biomimetic materials with multi-scale complex structures from three aspects: the synthesis of macroscale bulk materials, the preparation of larger bulk functional materials, and the exploration of sustainable green materials for the future, combiningse his team's ideas and results of international frontier research on biomimetic materials. After the seminar, Prof. Yu also answered questions from the teachers and students on site. According to the requirements of COVID-19 prevention and control, the seminar was open to a limited number of people. However, live streaming was provided for reaching more teachers and students.
The Heads overseeing the Personnel Office, Science and Technology Department (Centre for Scientific and Technological Achievements Transformation), and School of Mechanical Engineering attended the meeting with Prof. Yu.
