President Wang Qingyuan Attends the 22nd China Annual Conference for International Education & Expo

(Text by: Liu Hai; Source: Office of International Cooperation and Exchange) From October 21 to 24, the 22nd China Annual Conference for International Education & Expo (CACIE), themed by "New Opportunities and Prospects for Building an Open and High-Quality Education System", was held in Beijing. Wang Qingyuan, President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Chengdu University, participated in the 4th International Symposium on Applied Higher Education (hereinafter referred to as Symposium) and delivered a keynote speech, and attended the Plenary Session of 22nd CACIE.

    On the afternoon of October 21, the Symposium included a discussion around "The Development of 'Local Internationalization' in Applied Higher Education". Wang Yongli, Secretary General of the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) attended the Opening Ceremony of the Symposium and delivered a speech. Wu Renhua, Deputy Director of CEAIE and Secretary of the Party Committee of Fujian University of Technology hosted the Conference. Speakers from 14 universities in such countries as China, South Korea, Canada, Germany and France participated in the Conference through an integrated way of online and offline.

At the Symposium, President Wang Qingyuan delivered a conference speech on the theme of "Promoting high-quality development of the Applied Urban University by International strategy: Exploration and Practice of Chengdu University". He pointed out that universities have faced severe challenges due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Chengdu University has never changed its thought of adhering to the international strategy, and is vigorously exploring new modes for internationalized operation of universities in the context of normalized pandemic prevention. He reviewed the historical evolution and orientation of the University and then reported the new concepts and routes that the University is exploring in the context of integrated development of Three Strategies of China. The University takes the international strategy as the starting point, focuses on constructing first-class applied urban universities and cultivating high-quality applied talents with global competence, and comprehensively explores and implements new concepts and routes of international strategy in such fields as school-city integration, international benchmarking, cross-border education, scientific research cooperation, as well as teacher and student exchange.

In addition, many other experts also delivered keynote speeches at this Conference, such as Jin Xingxun (President of Cheju Halla University), Lin Jinhui (Director of Center of Research on Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools, Xiamen University (CRCFCRS)), Fang Tao (Professor at University of Toronto), Sun Aiwu, Huaiyin (President of Institute of Technology), and Director Hendrik Lachner (Director of Hochschulzentrum China (HZC)).


      On the morning of October 22, the 22nd CACIE hosted by CEAIE kicked off in Beijing International Convention Centre. Themed by "New Opportunities and Prospects for Building an Open and High-Quality Education System", the Conference analyzed and studied the implementation path of high-quality development of opening-up education during the new journey and created a new blueprint for global education cooperation. Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng attended the Conference and delivered a speech. Liu Liming, President of CEAIE hosted the opening ceremony. The host country of this Symposium is the United Kingdom. Susan Acland-Hood, Permanent Secretary at the Department for Education (DfE), Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Education of Singapore, and Stefania Giannini, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education delivered video speeches. Zhou Jianping, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chief Designer of China Manned Space Program, and Jiao Yang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Fudan University, attended the Conference for keynote speeches. Professor Sir Jim McDonald, President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and Dr. Allan E. Goodman, Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of International Education delivered keynote speeches by video.

      It is reported that the year 2021 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of CEAIE and is a milestone for China's foreign exchange and cooperation in civil education. The CEAIE held a series of themed events in various ways this year. During the Conference, an exhibition area was set up to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of CEAIE, showing the historic achievements made by CEAIE in helping the opening up of China's education and promoting worldwide educational exchanges and cooperation, thus planning new opportunities for future international exchanges in civil education. As an important platform and annual event for international exchanges in education, the CACIE plays an important role in promoting the opening up of high-quality education to the outside world, facilitating the construction of a powerful country in education, promoting global educational governance and building a community with a shared future for mankind for more than 20 years. As the Standing Director Unit of CEAIE and the Deputy Standing Director Unit of Application-oriented Universities Committee of China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE-AUC), Chengdu University actively participated in the Conference and received good responses.
