The College of Pharmacy was established in June 2020, originating from the College of Pharmacy established by Chengdu University in 2007 and Sichuan Industrial Institute of Antibiotics established in 1965. There are two specialties for the undergraduate courses in the College, that is, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Engineering, as well as a program for granting master’s degrees for some first-level disciplines under Pharmacy, which was among the first batch of approved master-degree-granting programs in China. Among these disciplines, Microbial and Biochemical Pharmacy is listed as a provincial key discipline. According to the Evaluation Report on the Development of Double-first-class Disciplines in 2019 published by cuaa.net, the Pharmacy discipline of the College has joined into the line of the high-level disciplines in China and has been selected into the list of top disciplines in Sichuan Province, ranking 35th nationwide and 2nd in the Province.

Over the years, there have been 36 experts entitled to the Special Government Allowance from the State Council, 1 candidate in the valid list for co-opted Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 3 persons with the title of Outstanding Middle-aged Experts granted by the Ministry of Personnel, 1 person awarded the May 1st Labor Medal of All-China Federation of Trade Unions, 1 person with the title of National March 8th Red Flag Bearer, 1 person with the title of National Medical Science and Technology Advanced Individual, 2 persons with the title of Model Worker granted by the National Medical Products Administration, 1 person with the title of Model Worker in the National Medical System, 1 person with the title of Model Worker of Central Enterprises and 2 persons with the title of Model Worker in Sichuan Province; 4 Academic and Technical Leaders (back-up candidates) of Sichuan Province, 2 persons in the list of Thousand Talents Plan, 1 person with the title of Distinguished Youth in Sichuan Province, 2 high-level experts in the list of Chengdu Drift Program, and 1 person in the list of Top 1% Most Cited Chinese Author in the journals on organic and pharmaceutical chemistry under the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2008.
The College has some institutes, such as Culture Collection of Sichuan Industrial Institute of Antibiotics (CCSIIA), National New Antibiotic Industrial Experimental Base, Antibiotics Research and Re-evaluation Key Laboratory of Sichuan Province, Sichuan Engineering Technology Research Center for Pharmaceutical Preparations and Equipment as well as Sichuan Antibiotics Industry Coordinated Innovation Center, being among the first batch of 8 constructors building national microbial resource platforms and a model institute of technology transfer in Sichuan Province; it publishes and distributes the professional journals in the domestic antibiotic field, such as Chinese Journal of Antibiotics and World Notes on Antibiotics.
The College has received many awards represented by over 100 major research achievements, including 10 national-level prizes of National Invention Award, National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, over 100 invention patents and over 100 new drug certificates. Among these, the global first-in-class drug Rifapentine was ranked as the Second National Invention Prize, and the innovative therapy "Interval Dosing and Observed Treatment" has been highly praised by WHO; "Key Technologies and Industrialization of Acarbose Raw Materials and Preparations" was ranked as the Second National Scientific and Technological Progress Award. The College has cooperation with over 200 pharmaceutical enterprises, and 96% of research achievements have been industrialized in these enterprises (two-third of them being listed companies and large state-owned pharmaceutical enterprises). It initiated production (imitation) of main ferment antibiotics, major microbial drugs and more than half of cephalosporin drugs used clinically, creating economic benefits worth RMB hundreds of billions and huge social benefits.

The Protocol between Chinese and Russian Governments and Prime Ministers that the College took in charge of has internationally set up a leading core technological system for green pharmacy; the physical bank of microbial secondary metabolites by the College and Taisho Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. is the great-reservoir microbial drug innovation strategic resource. Besides, the School, together with the University of Cambridge, established the high-capacity human tumor antibody gene reservoir and tumor pilot antibody medicine reservoir. Together with the University of Liverpool, it first discovered new indications of FABP5 Inhibitor during the R&D of new drugs for prostate cancer around the world; it found new antimicrobial lead compounds based on the host's immune mechanism during the R&D of terrestrial drug resources and marine innovative drugs in cooperation with the National Research Council Canada and Dalhousie University.
In the future, the College of Pharmacy will develop a domestic first-class high-quality discipline of pharmacy for the purpose of "establishing a first-class College of pharmacy in China", and first-class application-oriented pharmaceutical professionals will be trained. Meanwhile, the College will organize a first-class teaching team majored in pharmacy and create a first-class R&D system of pharmaceuticals at a high level in China.
