The launch ceremony of a program themed “Learning English with the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games” was held in Chengdu on 23 September, 2021. The event was organised by the Executive Committee of the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games with over 100 attendees.



Learning English with the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games is a program dedicated to providing language services so as to facilitate participants from home and abroad in the coming Games. Let’s take a look.


Chinese-English Dictionary of Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games Public Signs


More than 4,000 terms related to the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games and the city are listed in the dictionary. Users can find terms about the Games, FISU, ancient Shu culture and Tianfu culture, famous Sichuan snacks, etc., which might be interesting to themselves and helpful when traveling in Chengdu.

Glossary of terms


A glossary of terms concerning the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games has been established by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Liaison (Dept. FAL), and can be applied online and offline for different groups of users.


Firstly, an online database is presented in the form of Chinese-English, Chinese-French, Chinese-Russian, and Chinese-Spanish, with filtering and searching functions.



Secondly, there is a foldout of Chinese-English terminology in 18 categories, including the structure, acronyms, venues, and event information, which contains the most commonly used and core terms of the Games.


Thirdly, the core terms and the stories behind will be published on the official WeChat account of the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games and other media platforms.


U-translate app


U-translate, a translation app tailored for the Games, was unveiled by Dept. FAL. It provides customised functions dedicating to serving overseas participants or the workgroup during the Games.



Manual for names and flags of FISU member countries/regions


A manual about the names and flags of countries and regions of 174 FISU member associations will be made public in late October.
