Professor Helen Laville, Vice-Chancellor of Oxford Brookes University (OBU, UK), led a delegation to visit Chengdu University(CDU) on Sept 21 . Zhu Ming, Secretary of the CPC Chengdu University Committee, met with the delegation. The two sides held in-depth exchanges on advancing bilateral collaboration. Liu Xianfeng, Vice President of CDU, also attended the meeting.

Zhu Ming extended a warm welcome to the delegation and outlined CDU's recent initiatives to advance the internationalization of higher education and deepen industry-education integration.

He reviewed the progress both sides have made in their application for a Chinese-foreign cooperative education institution, underscoring CDU's strong commitment to its strategic partnership with OBU. Zhu Ming noted that both universities should continue to work closely to strengthen undergraduate cooperation while jointly expanding high-level international educational pathways at the master's and doctoral levels.

Helen Laville expressed her gratitude to CDU for the warm hospitality. She outlined OBU’s tradition of emphasizing practical application and serving regional development since its founding in the 19th century. She noted that OBU’s institutional positioning aligns closely with CDU’s strategic goals of serving the Chengdu-Chongqing Dual-City Economic Circle and developing into an application-oriented city university, laying a solid foundation for in-depth cooperation between the two institutions.

The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as Chinese-foreign cooperative education, faculty and student exchanges, collaborative research, and the commercialization of research outcomes, and reached a broad consensus. Both sides agreed that in the future, they will fully integrate their respective strengths to elevate their cooperation from a single talent development program to a new, comprehensive framework that integrates talent development, research collaboration, and commercialization of research outcomes. Chengdu University will continue to leverage its positioning as a high-level application-oriented university jointly developed by the province and the city, using Chinese-foreign cooperative education as a springboard to engage in broader and deeper cooperation with OBU in areas such as two-way faculty mobility and the commercialization of research outcomes.

Following the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Helen Laville and her delegation toured the university's Institute for Advanced Study, the Key Laboratory of Coarse Cereals Processing (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs), Overseas Education College, and the Traditional Crafts Institute.
