50 Chinese and Korean Youth Join Hands to Experience the Vibrant Sichuan

On the morning of September 15, the opening ceremony for SUNNY Youth Development Action 2026 in Sichuan was held at Chengdu University. Jointly organized by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) and South Korea’s SK Group, the program brought together 50 students from 27 universities across China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) for an immersive journey through Sichuan. Three undergraduate students from our university’s Stirling College and School of Foreign Languages are participating in this event.

The ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including Li Anjin, Deputy Secretary-General of CSCLF; Tian Fuxi, Vice President of SK China; and Liu Min, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Sichuan Province. Representing the host institution were Zhu Ming, Party Secretary of Chengdu University; and Liu Xianfeng, Vice President of Chengdu University.

In his remarks, Zhu Ming extended a warm greeting to the guests and young participants, and briefly introduced Chengdu University’s educational achievements and its commmitment to an open educational philosophy. He noted that in January of this year, the heads of state of China and South Korea reached an important consensus on strengthening people-to-people exchanges, promoting youth exchanges, and fostering mutual understanding. Young people are the future of the nation and ambassadors of cultural exchange. The gathering of 50 young people from China and South Korea at Chengdu University is a vivid example of putting the consensus reached by the two heads of state into practice. Chengdu University will spare no effort in providing comprehensive support and services, and looks forward to these young people opening their hearts, learning from and drawing inspiration from one another, and forging deep friendships that transcend mountains and seas. We sincerely welcome young friends to come to Chengdu University in the future to study and engage in exchanges, and to realize their youthful dreams in this“Park City”.

This event is a concrete step toward implementing the important consensus reached by the heads of state of China and South Korea, and it serves as a vital platform for advancing the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and fostering mutual understanding and friendship among young people from both countries. During their stay in Sichuan, the Chinese and South Korean youth will visit Chengdu, Deyang, and other locations to tour technology companies, smart industrial parks, museums, cultural venues, key enterprises, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, and smart agriculture innovation Center. They will engage in exchange and practical activities focused on scientific and technological innovation, cultural exchange, volunteer service, and sustainable development, experiencing the vibrant dynamism of Sichuan’s development through the integration of knowledge and action.

The “SUNNY Youth Development Action,” a collaboration between the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and South Korea’s SK Group, was launched in 2025 with support from the “SUNNY Youth Development Action Special Fund” and is aimed at young people in both China and South Korea. In 2026, the SUNNY Youth Development Action held regional events in Yunnan, Sichuan, and Jiangxi in July, September, and November, respectively. Under the theme “Empowering Green Development by Youth and Technology,” a total of 150 young people from China and South Korea were invited to participate the program.
