On February 12, the national final of the 4th International Future Envoy Contest (IFEC) was held. A total of 24 teams with nearly 100 contestants participated in the final, including well-known universities in China such as the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, and Southwest Jiaotong University, as well as one university from Russia. Through several months of research on various countries and investigation on the topics of cross-border e-commerce, park cities, sports diplomacy, and Chinese and foreign vocational education, Chinese youth show themselves in the field of diplomacy to the world from a global perspective. After the preparation, investigation, cross-border online meetings, and postponement of the pandemic, one gold award, three silver awards, and six bronze awards were announced in the final of the 2022 IFEC. Blue Ocean, a student team from the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures of Chengdu University (CDU), participated in the competition on the topic of the ecological sports park. It won the gold award for good performance in speech performance, language expression, posture and image, teamwork, and comprehensive impression. Shen Xiangru, a member of Blue Ocean, was selected into the top 18 outstanding youth envoys of 2022 IFEC from 100 contestants. The video produced by the team in the final also won the Profound Content Award.
The Blue Ocean team consists of four girls who are enrolled in 2020 and major in English and business English from the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures of CDU, including Chief Commander Chen Sisi, Speaker Fu Ying, Media Officer Cai Liwen, and Financial Officer Shen Xiangru. During the preparation stage, under the practical guidance of Qin Yi, Secretary-General of Chengdu Translators Association and Chief Operating Officer of Chengdu Artest Culture Co., Ltd., Blue Ocean decided on the main content of the project and optimized the details. Fan Huang, a professional instructor, offered valuable advice and patient guidance to the four contestants in their speeches. In the investigation stage, in addition to launching a number of questionnaire activities, the team also actively participated in the forums and meetings organized by Chinese and foreign think tank experts, and discussed the development process of the park city and the development status of Chengdu's sports industry with experts in both Chinese and English, trying to find the connection between the park city and the sports industry. The team finally completed all the tasks assigned by the Organizing Committee with an exquisite short video and a project white paper. During the competition, the team members showed their good insight, excellent humanistic quality, creativity, and execution ability, and demonstrated their efforts as young people to promote the park city and sports diplomacy.
IFEC is a public welfare event co-sponsored by Linguist Translation Services and the Chengdu Translators Association, with the participation of 100 colleges and universities, embassies and consulates of various countries, foreign affairs agencies, foreign-related enterprises, and government agencies. The first session was held in 2019. The competition focuses on the expression of global youth, encouraging youth to embrace the world with both challenging and innovative attitudes for change.
