Overview of Confucius Institute

In 2010, the Confucius Institute at UNH was established by Chengdu University and the University of New Hampshire, the USA. In addition, four Confucius Classrooms (Confucius Classroom at Oyster River Cooperative School District, Confucius Classroom at Portsmouth High School, Confucius Classroom at Berwick Academy and Confucius Classroom at John Stark Regional High School) were successively set up with local school districts and schools in the USA. In 2015, the Confucius Institute at UNH was praised by Liu Yandong, the then Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council at the 10th Confucius Institute Conference. Wang Yige, Director of the Confucius Institute at UNH, was rated as the "Global Confucius Institute Advanced Individual". In the same year, the work of the Confucius Institute at UNH was highly praised by Xu Lin, the then Director-General of Hanban and Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters. In 2016, the work of the Confucius Institute at UNH was affirmed by Zhang Qiyue, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in New York. In 2018, Chengdu University and the University of New Hampshire jointly established the Chinese Language Teaching Center and the Overseas Teaching Center in the College of Liberal Arts, the University of New Hampshire. At the International Chinese Language Education Conference 2019, the Confucius Institute at UNH jointly established by Chengdu University and the University of New Hampshire won the title of "The Confucius Institute of the Year". Among 535 Confucius Institutes in the world, only 25 have won this honor. Winning this award is a brilliant achievement the Confucius Institute at UNH has made in the past ten years. In August 2020, the Confucius Institute at UNH was officially authorized to use the brand, name and logo of the Confucius Institute by the Chinese International Education Foundation (hereinafter referred to as "the Foundation"). It was a successful transfer of administration of the Confucius Institute at UNH from the Confucius Institute Headquarters to the Foundation, making it one of the first overseas Confucius Institutes to complete the transfer.
